Combine those with a ranger set as strategist and you're able to kill a foe by using the attacks of opportunity alone.
The "strategist" uses smoke bombs, which forces a disengagement, which leads to an attack of opportunity of whatever that foe is fighting.
With a Spearwall and Barrage covering that foe, you're able to do three (or more) attacks of opportunity. Which could be enough to kill a foe.
Thorin :)
Thanks Mr Oakenshield.
I've never actually tried that. Always had Frenzy on them. Maybe when my squad gets a bigger and I recruit a second Ranger, I'll give it a go. I've got 8 now, and I shan't recruit any more until Recruits are Lvl 3, cos I hate the process of getting them to Lvl 3.
I will give it a go though, cos I haven't tried it. I don't use Frenzy much, but it's awesome, when you really need someone to die.
yep best bonus for me by a long way, strat rangers, archers ,pike ,the whole team gets massive benefit from it
A good strat cloud can wipe out 3 or 4 let alone the bonus damage from barrage and spearwall
I run 2 strat rangers, 2-3 pike ,2 archers some games so the bonus per battle is really big
As I said to Thorin, I'm giving that a go on one Ranger this time. Sounds like fun.
Support, which you mentioned.
Flanking, which increases by 10% the debuff applied by surrounding
Beast taming, which increases the damage dealt by animals by 10%
Perspective, which increases damage of shooting skills by 20% (which seems to fit well with the fact that you have a lot of ranged skills)
It's the only ranger build I've ever used, it's the perfect match for pike and bow
A big cloud that makes every one jump to the left (then a hop to the right)
time it right and that's 6 valor from pike and arrow kills
Then on top of that any engaged enemy in the cloud get wacked by the attacker
Run 2 strat rangers ( ended up with 3 this time) and its a kill zone
AND to top it all off the rangers are kill machines themselves as well, don't get fooled by the "they can only attack engaged enemies" arguments, that's bs.
You don't want them up against the best units every round but they can happily hold up a unit for a turn or 2 if needed plus you use other rangers clouds on them and not much stands up after that anyway
I only see the first three. Where is Perspective? I don't see that anywhere.
You get it over the course of the game, can't remember where you get it, but it is available

Try shopping at Companion Training centres.
Perspective is a good one if you have a lot of ranged fighters, like the Throwing axe Warrior, Assassin class Rangers, Harpoon specced Spears, and even swordsmen with offhand throwing weaponry. The Archer class is only one of the optional classes that could benefit.
Regarding Attacks of Opportunity- adding to those already mentioned-
Riposte is one of those. So is Beastmaster Attack command. AOO Strategy Table selection is a good pick, particularly when your squad gets the Opportunist bonus.
Currently running an Opportunity based party as a little experiment.
It is certainly very good.
Consider running a pair of Poisoners. They chuck clouds of poison, and 2 applications give Vulnerability( Crits guaranteed). I run Archers with the Warbow ( doubleshots on crit) and Warriors with Big Pig Iron ( Crits vs poison) - so all we do is crit. Swordsmen get left out, so I squeeze in throwing axes for the leftovers- crits cause bleeds.
What's funny is that swords counter your build entirely and actually benefit from all those dots you throw around. If only the ai actually built their units and used all the skills we do
