Short answer? The people holding the Stargate IP are jerkwads.
Your welcome to critize the game. The topic I closed was about how the game was not Stargate Alliance or an FPS like Stargate Alliance, a game that was cancelled in 2005 and which, I think any reasonable person would agree, has nothing to do with this game other than both games holding the Stargate Licence.
Please keep posts on topic, we don't mind discussion about similar games either - I've not closed discussion about Commandos or Mutant Year Zero...
It is deeply unfair to blame us for the cancellation of the 2005 Stargate FPS, and it really is extremely off-topic for this forum.
Probably because it would cost more money. This type of game cheaper to make, and the price reflects it at 24.99 GBP. Might be one of those, low risk lets try this and see how it goes before they decide to make a riskier more ambitious game.
What about Stargate Network and other fangames?
Which ones received a cease and desist order shortly after Timekeepers announcement.
You could ask MGM or Amazon to remove it.
SGN could have coexisted with Timekeepers, not the same type of game at all.
But it seems more like a fear of unfair competition and I guess it's quite convenient for you, especially considering the negative reviews your game has received here.
Thank you for responding before closing this topic. No criticism here, just facts.
To be absolutely clear: We do not control the IP. In the same way that developers of Warhammer 40,000 games do not control the IP for Warhammer 40,000, they obtain a licence from Games Workshop. We obtained a licence from MGM/Amazon.
Unathorized use of an IP must be challenged, or legally you can lose control of the IP to the public domain. This is why Nintendo is so aggressive about shutting down fan projects, as they lost control of an early version of Donkey Kong to this very issue.
We love Stargate and would have loved to have seen an FPS or similar. In fact, we made a Starship Troopers Strategy game and another Studio, on seeing the success of that game, made an FPS right after. We make strategy games, we don't see FPS games as competition.
All we're asking is that people discuss Timekeepers in the Timekeepers forum, good or bad, now that the game is so close to release. It is not fair to blame us for what has happened to previous Stargate projects. We're a different team, it wasn't us, blame for these issues is misdirected and is unfair.
Thank you.
Yeah i can see that. Dont think this game will pay off sadly. I still hope the best but i wont buy it for sure, tho as i said. LOVE Stargate. Still watch the series every now and then. Even SGU. lel
I watched it as a kid, loved the show even though i wasnt sure what was going on half the time lol
Why you decided to make a Stargate game set in such a niche genre (Stealth strategy/RTT; whatever the current name for the genre is)?
It was certain that it will flop.
FPS or Action RPG like Mass Effect would sell very well.
Of course, that would require higher budget from MGM/Amazon/Publisher, but potential was there.
But let's assume that IP owners are blind and don't want our money, so budget stays the same.
In that case, even classic RTS like Age of Empires, Jagged Alliance clone (JA3 was released this year and it's very good) or cheap isometric RPG on Unity would sell better than Stealth strategy. Because it's a complete niche.
This game will flop and will be abandoned and forgotten next year. Wasted potential. A shame that your passion was wasted. Of course, I still wish you luck and thanks for your hard work on the game.
However SteamDB numbers for Timekeepers are terrible.
One day before release and only 15k followers...
Will this game even reach 1000 players 24h peak?
