I Know of a way to get it working, Download 1.01 patch, install it, then locate the game's folder, find the bin folder, there should be 2 EXE's. Run the BA2.exe as admin. This bypasses the auto updater, so in order to run the game you have to run off this EXE everytime. If you don't by accident, you will have to reinstall 1.01 patch and start a new game.

Cheers!

That does not work here, it used to under versions before windows 10. I found a 1.01 patch for the game, but it does not update the .exe, only replaces some .ini files. Also the autoupdates does not get bypassed from running the other exe, I removed the autoupdate program (location \support\ file is called gu.exe) if you rename that it will switch to the game.. with the error "blazing angels 2 has stopped working", we have al famously come to know.

I found a solution if the game still stops working.
This game for some stupid reason has a default of 75 hz refresh rate which not many monitors support currently and causes crashes. You need to:
1- Press Windows key + R
2- Open "regedit"
3- Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/WOW6432Node/UBISOFT/BlazingAngels2/somegibberish/Basic video/
4- Scroll down to ResolutionRefreshRate and then change DECIMAL to 60.

If it's not there go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Ubisoft/BlazingAngels2/somegibberish/Basic video/ instead and do the same thing.

Tested it on an Intel HD 1000 from a Celeron N2806 and the game works perfectly, I found out by using my old failthful CRT monitor and since no one bothered to search the game's config files. Tested (pirated) versions 1.00 and 1.01. Also Windows 7 64 bit.

nice try I tried both of your solutions and in the ubisoft area I do not see BlazingAngels2 there
Try by finding (Ctrl+F) "BlazingAngels2" or "basic video" until you get it. I don't know exactly where it is on other Windows OS'.

General Lee, maybe you want to ease up? A total stranger found a solution that worked for him and took the time to tell us about it.

Im sure he's learnt his lesson. He wont try to help next time. He is very, very sorry, and would like to offer you his firstborn as a sign of his contrition.

Well the opening post specifically states windows 10, and he comes up that he got it to run on windows 7. Most of us got it to run on windows 7. I took his solution into testing it with my setup to see if it had any effect.. it did not, still credit for him to try, but he actually should have looked beforehand, since there are postings getting it to work on windows 7/8, where his solution, for some users might have helped. He also does not start his post with "I'm using windows 7", but he made a lot of us, who are getting their hopes up to read through it. I can understand the reaction since you are actually handing people a turd sandwich.

For now, the game is still broken on Win10, Blazing Angels 1 is working fine, and so is the DX10 version of HAWX. Ubisoft has abandoned support(even though they are still selling the game!), I simply switch over to my windows 7 system in order to play the game for now.

This game was made in the aftermath of WinXP, and likely did something "dirty in DLL's" in order to do it's thing, a stopgap solution that was not working in Win10 code, for now.

I abandoned trying to "fix" it, for now, and focused on getting starlancer to run with all whistles and bells in FullHD on Win10(and got that done), and my focus now is on X-wing VS Tie Figher's balance of power atm.

Hi Everyone,

Thank you diego96 for your input but this did not resolve my issue. I would recommend to review the error in the Event viewer (run Eventvwr.msc). I asm currently running Windows 10 Pro.

Check which module crashed BA2.exe. In my case was :
Faulting module path: C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\DINPUT8.dll

Downloaded this file from a reputable website. I downloaded from pcgamingwiki.com
http://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/59-microsoft-directinput-dinput8dll/ and scanned the file with an anti-virus.

Dropped this file in the same executable path (Most likely C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Blazing Angels 2 Secret Missions of WWII\Bin) and changed compatibility to Windows 7

Let me know if have any questions.

Yes I know, this will come in handy if I want to further test on Windows 10 in the future. I'm having plans right now since W7 is not fully supported anymore on my testing hardware (with latest Intel HD drivers being available for Win10 only).

Awesome it works.. kinda..

The game runs great and you can run it around 2/3 times. Afterwards it applies an update crippling itself. (I am running the BA2.exe directly). Error log shows “The application has failed to start due to a side-by-side configuration error” and this comes up with multiple solutios where re-installing the game, or rebooting seems to help at random, but it appears to cripple the game and you are forced to re-install it.. However, I got it running stable on windows 10, and that was more then we were able to do in a long time, we are getting closer to a solution!

Thanks STRELOK it really works. :) I downloaded 4.8.0.400 (32bit) DINPUT8.DLL (from https://www.dll-files.com/dinput8.dll.html) and followed the instruction (copy dll and set compatibility mode to Win7) and BA2.exe is not crashing anymore on my Win 10 64 bit and I am able to play the game. :-)

Right.. so, installed the windows 10 creator's update that features a new compatibility option.. And then I hit install on BA2 in my steam library... and it worked straight out of the box, no tweaking needed AT ALL! Running windows 10 professional 64-bit build 16275.100 Whoohoo!
