email Steam and Ubisoft (the publisher)
For those willing to puzzle with me on windows 10:
- You'll need the last official patch (v1.01).
- You'll need to patch both .net frameworks(3.5 and 4.5), and re-install on your windows 10(here you can discover if you have a corrupt .WIM installation, if you do fix that first.
- You need to patch the exe using microsofts imagecfg tool but i have not found the correct values for it to set to yet.
- Rights: You need to set full access rights for everything regarding the game(files, directories, and even the registry entries to "everyone". And you have to run the game under thesame account you installed it as(this is what breaks "run as administrator"), and that has to be an account with administrative rights.
Some things to keep in mind though, and to make sure you are not disappointed when you do get it to run:
- The game runs like ♥♥♥♥ on modern nvidia cards, screentearing from hell and you have to use a FPS limiter like MSI Afterburner for a playable view, unless you have a Gsync monitor. AMD cards run excellent, and 1440p is no problem!
- While Ubisoft is still selling and advertising the game as multiplayer, the online servers for the PC have been shut down long ago..(The xbox360 ones are still up though!), meaning for you have have to set up a local lan or VPN link with your buddies to play together.
- Calibrating and setting the buttons and axes correctly for your joystick you'll have to do manually in your registry. It's a one-time job, but can be bother for the unenlightened.
- Some joysticks won't work at ALL if you have a multimedia keyboard plugged in.
Don't expect any support from Ubisoft, and best ask for a refund if all the above is too much of a hassle for you. Otherwise just dust off your windows 7/8 machine and run it from there, and look in the threads regarding that in the case of setup issues.
It's a real shame, since BA2 is just about my favoroute WW2 combat sim. If anyone has found a way to get it to run, or wants to bang their heads together over this, I'd suggest him or her starting a new thread with solutions, and maybe we can write our own common patch procedure.
Cheers!
