Am I supposed to be controlling two characters at once with a single controller?
Maybe noob question, but with only one controller connected (wireless XBox One) the game is detecting two players, both mapped to the same controller. Is that intended?

When I continue or restart a level, it forces me to select a character for controller 1 and controller 5, and won't let me drop a character.

Left stick moves both characters, d pad moves only the P1 character, button inputs happen with both at the same time. If this is what's intended, then it's a neat idea, but kind of overwhelming to keep track of. If it's a feature and not a bug, this might not be the game for me.

I've had this happen with a few doujin shmups. The only work around I found in those games was to use a generic xinput controller for pc. Not sure if that will help but if you have one laying around give it a try.

It's a bug that might happen on a few games, usually ones that have native D-input support.

Try checking the steam controller settings and disabling it for the game. Unsure if there's any in-game setings to deal with it.

I had the same problem with jitsu squad. I have 2 xbox controllers connected. This is what I found if you want to only control ONE character per controller.

1. start the game with controller 1. In character selection screen you see p1 and p2.
2.. Press RT to select the character you want.
3. Press B, then p2 should be gone and you can select character again.
4. On controller 2, press RT and p2 should show up controlled by controller 2.
5. Controller 1 and Controller 2 only press RT to select your character.
6. Ready pop up comes up, select Yes. Then you should in game with each controller controlling only one character.

If you messed up anywhere in the steps, just go back to the main screen or restart the game and try again.

I am playing with one XBOX ONE controller and am having the same problem.
This didn't happen when I first played, but once I cleared the game, it started happening. So I have already played for over 2 hours and cannot return it.

I have tried changing the input settings in steam but the problem persists. This thread seems to be very old, but is the developer not going to fix the bug?

If anyone knows how to fix this, please let me know.

Hello everyone!
I got the same problem but I only have one xbox elite controller. Anyway I wanted to continue the story with the keyboard. It looks like if a story is started with 2 characters you have to continue with 2. So I started a new story with the keyboard. Then the selection works fine. Immedeatly after the start you can quit the game (using ENTER to get to the menue instead of escape). Connect the controller and choose story and then continue.

This issue can be fixed by connecting the controller wired

Right click on the game, go to properties, controller, then enable Steam input. That fixed the issue for me.
