Silent Hunter III

Silent Hunter III

how to manual target
I'm new at this, so I tried to look for youtube tutorials and even looked at the manual but I just can't seem to get a grasp of it. Maybe I'm just stupid but does anybody have like a step-by-step checklist of what to do with manual targeting using TDC?

The idea is that you use guesstimates of the target's angular size and momentum and input them into the TDC. You use the height from the reference book to gauge the distance, then use it to estimate speed, and gauge its course by eye. It's all trigonometry and Mk 1 Eyeball.

i will upload a video soon that show ho i do, dont need to use the useless rec manual btw :)

i came back when the video is online. playing at 100% realism only contact on map..

i only use speed of target + speed of torpedo + being at an angle of 90 degres then i shoot in the 0 gyro angle.. nothing else.

whatever are the distance, limited by the torpedo range ...

dont need to do that for torped a boat.

Anyway look at >>> 14:00

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qh5IidSLrlw&feature=youtu.be
You don't need to watch videos.
Its pretty simple
1. open the map, there are different drawing tools
2. Find your boat and draw a circle around it
3. make 4 circle sectors each 45°
Now you have a torpedo heading circle and you need only an enemy ship contact somewhere in the circle to attack it.
If you have a ship, check on the periscope and the grade number of the ship position.
Now draw a straight to the ship, to get the distance.
You should wait until the enemy ship is about 340° to 20° in front of your boat or 160° to 200° behind your boat.
Now see the target speed and choose your torpedo speed manually (fast, slow, medium)
Also the torpedo depth is very important, watch the ship type and keel depth to set the perfect torpedo depth to strike the keel and make a 1 hit wonder like some musicians did :)
After a few training shots don't get mad if the first torpedoes miss, activate the action camera for tutorial reasons to watch your shot and get a feeling for the torpedo heading.
A few hours of training and you will get the idea of it ;)
Hint: Long range target need another torpedo heading then short range targets.
Cheers

Assuming you have automated map update... Or what?

I dont have automated map update, I have sonar or sighting.
Because if you don't have sonar contact or sighting, the target is undetected,

You don't need to watch videos.

You better learn by watching video, i learn that way, as there is not so many TUTORIAL in french, looking video of people that know how to play was something that helped me a lot.

anyway you know all so.

I'll admit I never turned the realism down that far, and use automatic fire control. So I was under the impression that this realistic procedure would need to be used.

Yes. true  Its so much more fun to turn on even more realism settings as better you get by time ;) Ive started on 30% and play now regulary about 80-90% (I cant miss action camera and outside view, watching the boat while smoking a cigarette :D)
I hated the action camera. It was always a bit wrong. f I missed something, then I missed something.
The action camera is like the movie feature of the game, you have the camera drive like in the movie "Das Boot" ;) Yeah, its not realistic, but so much fun to watch the impact of your perfect calculated course, I had the camera deactivated for points as i played with Weapons Officer, but with manual targeting I enjoy the action camera :)
