>Game Screen resolutions are FIXED type. Meanse the game uses only one kind.
Game resolutions are 1024x768.
>I don't know about Win8.0 or 8.1, But in 7 in the compatibility menu tab, there is a settings list that you can also set, do not check any of them. It dosen't run in 256 colors (not bit, big difference between colors and bit) nor dose it use a 640x480 screen. These are for DOS game types and Win95 (800x600 was common for win98 and ME, see the connection to 1024x768?).
>DVD will have no bearing, I have the a orginal release retail when it was first released and have a copy of the patch for it burned on CD, I have the recent retail release of the game that once installed, I don't need a CD to play it anymore, and also the steam version of the game. All work just fine, actully I think it plays way better in Win 7 than it ever did when I had XP.
>I do not have Win8.x how ever, If you tried all these and run into a dead end, then I suggest to go to the SUBSIM fourms, because this is were Silent hunter lives. Members even had the chance to test SH5 regarding Ubisoft. Not to mention many mods, but I leave that to you.
In regards for issues because of Win8.x I say if the simple stuff is got you stumped, there maybe it is something else that was over looked that could be just as simple...
