Renown question
I'm on my 30th patrol, and I always complete my mission objectives and sink many ships, but often I run out of torpedoes and even sometimes deckgun ammo before getting to an assign patrol grid.

However, when I radio HQ after running out of torpedoes, they tell me to return to base, even if I have not completed the patrol mission objective. Up until this point, I still go patrol the grid area for 24 hours, but my question is:

Will I lose, get negative renown, or not get as much renown if I return to base as ordered with my patrol area not yet patrolled? Even if I destroy many ships?

I'm sure that returning to your starting base is optional and only gives a renown bonus. I'm fairly sure completing objective is also only a bonus.

Yes, you will loose some renown if you do not do your 24h in the asigned area. If you teleport back to base you will also loose some renown. But you will not get any deduction from the renown you have earned by doing so.
Some of the big mods, like GWX changes this.

I am not using any mods yet, maybe on another campaign I will try. Also, yes, I always return back to my home base manually, sailing right into the docks.
Just, I didn't see the point anymore of doing my 24hr patrol when I had nothing to attack with and also because often I run out of torps before I even get close to the patrol area, so I would spend days just getting there for no reason, just seems pointless and tedious.
From what I can gather, it seems I lose about 100-400 (maybe 500) renown for not doing the patrol area. But then, by now I have like 15k renown, so I probably really don't need it anymore.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a renown penalty. I've sometimes exited to base after a particularly devistating air attack (dead AA gunner, hull damage, etc.) and I've gotten a little renown. However, I usually manage to take down some sort of Allied vessel or aircraft before calling it quits, so maybe that's why I never see a penalty.

Sink a neutral or friendly ship. Then you will get a penalty.

You can also return to a freindly port that isnt your stationed base or supply ship for resupplies without ending the patroll. I think it still shows up as a new patroll in the ledger but it isnt considered a new patroll as far as time spent on shoreleave and renoun/promotion gains.

Derp, responding to a 2 year old thread. Thanks Thread necro's.
