Silent Hunter III

More nations more submarines ?
Why is there only one nation playable ?

+ the submarines hardly differ form each other.

Is there an other silent hunter version which offers many nations and submarines ?

Because it's a decade-old game and it knows that focus is important. And submarines generally aren't too different; if you try introducing drastically different stuff during wartime (e.g. the end-game Type XXI), you lose.

Silent Hunter 4 is centered on the US Navy in the Pacific; there are no multi-nation SH games. But note how it also has the U-Boat Stories DLC with Germans in the Pacific, and how SHIII is considered the best in the series.

Even old games should have at least 2 nations in it.

Well, at least it is the only game which focused on GERMANS, most of the games out there try to re-present the USA superhero soldier.

However, it starts getting boring playing the same sub-models over and over again. Even if I like the game and it has a very relaxing atmosphere.

Why would they? The Soviet and ABDACOM submarine warfare campaigns were relatively insignificant compared to Germans and Americans, the Battle of the Atlantic is both by far more prominent; otherwise it would require the game to have two complete sets of programming, maps, ships, torpedoes, et cetera. Therefore, too much effort for little gain.

Plus the Battle of the Atlantic makes a perfect campaign from a gameplay perspective - the odds are constantly getting stacked against you: ASDIC, Hedgehog, escort carriers, Huff-Duff, et cetera.

Which flotilla did you start with, though? Type VII is rather different from Type II; and Type XI is much different from Type VII. Whereas Type XXI is a different cookie altogether.

Really besides the US in the Pacific there is really no other nations to turn to. Even then the US actions and planning revolved around the aircraft carriers.

The Allies focused on getting convoys safely across the Atlantic and really had no need for any significant deployment of submarines. The German navy besides the u-boots where not really any major threat and the Germans were not relying on supplies arriving from across an ocean.

The subs are different because of ranges, maxium dive depth, speed, number of torpedos, dive speed. All very important to survival and tonnage that can be sunk during a patrol.

This is a historical simulation first and foremost. And did you expect Type VIIB to be different from VIIC, anyway?

The only theater left unexplored is the Soviet Arctic fron and the actions by the Northern and Baltic fleets. Got to kill those ore transports coming in from Norway and Sweden before the tungsten shells end up gutting T-34s!

I get it, you feel happy playing the same nation and the same submarines over and over again.

Please don't go into troll mode. Despite the lack of gamey variety, SHIII still provides for enough fun.

...So long as you don't mind getting depth-bombed, hunted down by aircraft, and losing the war.

Troll-mode ? I think you are a troll.

Sorry to destroy your illusions, but Germany was not the only nation with submarines!!!

There is absolute nothing wrong about some more nations.

+ You claim that SH3 would provide enough fun, this might be your opinion and how you feel about it, but not how I feel about it. So am I a troll now because I have an other opinion ?

Nice try, but I am not going to discuss with somebody who comes up with calling me a troll and totally unlogical claims which are not even really connected to what I've been saying the whole time.

Discussion closed -

No other country had such a comittment to submarine warfare, though. It was a secondary affair for the US. A campaign with, say, the Royal Navy, would have you doing nothing most of the time, whereas a Japanese submarine commander would spend much time as a gloriffied stealth freighter.

Only two countries launched an unlimited war against enemy civilian shipping. Which explains that they both have games made about their submarines, and not, say, French submarines.

An idiot because I think a game with only one nation is getting boring after playing years over years ? Ok.

And that's what I call "full troll mode".

The game is extremely old. But all attempts to stray from the Das Boot formula (and I mean SHVI) has ended poorly. Therefore, I recommend that any SH remakes stick to that one nation.

Das Boot was a movie and has nothing to do with this game.

I like the game but I think there is absolute nothing wrong about giving the player an option to pick between two nations to play. I don't really see your issue. You have some believes how something should be, but you are not able to see that the majority of games always offers options when it comes to nations and character/class/vehicle variety. I totally accept your opinion because you think this is how it should be, but to call me a troll because I share my own opinion which million of other players obviously share too, is simply plain stupid.

If you are soo interested in " original " and " historical correct " go and watch " Das Boot " in German language without subtitles, join the German navy and play submarine in real life.

This is still a game, and to offer a choice of two nations would not have ANY negative influence on the actual gameplay.

You arguments are totally empty .

Wow, you OP are a complete idiot.
