silent hunter 3 or 4?

hello,id like to know which one of the 2 you reccomend (since 5 apears to be ♥♥♥♥♥).

and does it just run on modern systems?

Most people seem to agree that 3 is the best of the lot.

3 has aged pretty well and has some great mods available.

Defintely Silent Hunter 3, it is the most in depth of the series and in my opinion one of the final games made that actually requires in depth knowledge and skill. A bit of a learning curve but it is worth it in the end and on subsim.com so many mods for Silent Hunter 3, it is like Windows XP, fans refuse to let it go quietly.

SHIII works well on my Win7 machine - it does occationally CTD, but compared to when it was first released, its virutally bug-free. If I were to complain about anything, it would be the infinite RAF of the base game - the tendency for the game to spawn wave after wave of Allied fighters and bombers over their airspace.

That said, it seems to be the only sandbox game of the series - you do have to know the basics of submarine warfare, but sim/arcade is up to you. For instance, I dont do my own math (I have people for that!), but I do run with dud torpedoes active in the game.

And even full on arcade, its still damned hard to put an eel onto a freighter in heavy seas in the middle of the night.

I prefer SH4 as I enjoy the pacific theater against the Japanese ships rather than hunting merchants in the Atlantic.
I have all the silent hunter games and wish they made a new one.
But I don't think it will happen again without kickstarter.

Silent hunter 3 is the best game.. As a fisherman, i can say that the waves is inpressive real, and the game is easy to learn..All other Silent hunter games is to complex, and fare off the real hunt as in 3.. I hope they make a new one, that go back to the bacic of 3..

Is the crew management as complex in the silent hunter parts after the third one?

Nope the crew management is pretty basic and you can get away with not having to do anything with them. Apart from telling them to man guns etc.

SH3 with GWX or LSH3 mod. SH4 is OK when modded. SH5 avoid at all cost.

Take notes UBI for the next version we want something similar to the playability of SH3 but with moderned graphics.

I already took this matter up with Ubisoft direct because of SH5, they already stated they are done with the Silent Hunters series games. There will be no more to come... I guess its too hard to get dev's to just do the game as in the job instead of being personal about it...

Never say never Ubisoft. Graphics have improved drastically and it might be time to launch a new version.

warcatt00 developers always say the same thing. An example of that is Creative Assembly. They said that they would never create another Barbarian Invasion but they did, the only thing is that they call it Atilla. Same thing they just change the names.

The next Silent Hunter could be called Silent Service, or something like that, in order to spin the bad reputation Ubi created for themselves with Silent Hunter 5.

I understand what your saying, but I am telling you what they told me, They been listening to the complaints dump in since silent hunter 4 but not as bad as like for silent Hunter 5, So between these 2 they loosing money. Seem Silent Hunter 3 is the only one able to ride that train. Maybe because silent hunter 3 developers were able to make the game as in make the game and not get personal, after all, it is a representation of a German sub in WWII, and this was under a Nazi Government. No matter how you want to veiw it, in the end, its still considered by many a Nazi sub, game or not. So maybe some developers can not get past that part to make a clean game. Which is were Silent Hunter 3 is the best, and Silent Hunter 4, not so bad even though it seems on the German add-on, all the German sub personal has demon eyes, But silent Hunter 5 the worst, which players tend to feel punished while playing the game, it is created by Polish developers.

So I have to agree with Ubisoft, they really need to stop the series untill they get developers who can get their head in their job with out getting personal with it...

For me, I play because its a U-boat game, politics has no bearing for me...
