How to end a completed Mission correctly?
After completing a routine mission I designed, obtaining 35k tonnage, with no torpedo weapons remaining I selected to end mission by abandon. Now I have no record of my time and achievements.

I read on this forum since that, you must be close to a base to actually complete and retain your career or single mission records. Need confirmation of the exact way to exit to base.

I deleted that 'player profile' with no U number as it was my first and it was a 'mission' testing my scenario design and not a career selection so can't replay it which is okay as a trainer. My map layout is good with game AI randoms very good (single player, no mods)

I may have not read the manual correctly and in which case I may be sent to the Eastern front at a later date I assume if I do it again!

Get to within 100 km from your base, press the ESC key and select the 'Exit Patrol" option.

Many thanks I had read something like that but didn't know the distances. Cheers!

I've been playing this game for 13 years and I've never been near my base when I quit. I just go the surface, bring up the menu, click on "Return to Base" and I'm there. Not much of a problem. Of course, I have never used mods - that may change things.

Yes, but doing that in the un-modded game will cost you 100 renown if I am not mistaken. If one uses GWX, the renown reward for reaching your patrol sector, patrolling that sector for 24 hours. and returning successfully to base were removed. This was due to unresolved bugs in the mod that resulted in issues properly awarding that renown when playing Med or Black Sea campaigns.

These awards can be restored if desired by going to;

\Silent Hunter 3\data\Cfg

... and editing your Basic.cfg file to restore the following three lines to their original values;

RenownReachGridObjCompleted=500
RenownPatrolGridObjCompleted=200
CompletedPatrol=100

Thanks for replying to my post Scrogdog. Yep I am unmodded and actually thankful for it after losing so much info, save files, crashes, not loading, no sound at all etc so I undid the commander thing and although I can't remove all the GWX stuff I did 'fiddle' with basic cfg a bit already regards the single missions for the editor.

I don't like getting the blank BDU signals in mission but haven't figured out how to delete that and the rest of the gwx stuff from my files yet even though this is a complete re-install on steam apart from previous troubles.

I think the vanilla game is fine for me and I don't use multiplayer. I don't much like Hurricanes travelling out 500km (one way) to drop depth charges of at least two to four on me. That's historically or realistically weird, however probably the devs AI dice rolls challenging the continuous time compression used by the player. So I'll practise my AA more. Cheers for you post.

You are welcome!

Getting rid of GWX completely requires a 'clean' install of the game. That is, when you uninstall SH3 not all game files are eliminated. Your saves will still be there in your username saves folder and also, in your steam common apps folder, you'll see that the main Silent Hunter 3 folder (as described above) still exists.

Delete that top level folder manually and your next install of the game should be GWX free. In my experience anyway. :)

Good luck!

I wish I read this, I was almost done a patrol when I accidentally ran into a sea wall about 5 feet away from the uBoat pen thinking I had to pull into it, I sank and died immediately

Wow, thanks for this information! So, if i want, i can boost my reknown by allocating myself a tons of reknown just by modifying this cfg file?!!! lol, i am gonna have a crew of all the best guys in the marine rooster! and best equipment too!
Do you know a way to add more torpedoes or more boats to convoy? is it that simple to modify? i am not a power user and never use mods, but i can edit a file with notepad and modify a file.
Anyway thanks!
