How to Install GWX, Widescreen Mod, and Commander on Win10&11

1) Download GWX and install over your Steam installation
thegreywolves.com/downloads

Run the game once and close it.

2) Download Commander, install, redirect it to your Steam installation

3) Download GWX Commander compatabilty patch and install it:
https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=147567

4) Open JSGME (a mod manager that's automatically installed by this point, should have icon on your desktop) and enable the mods you want.

5) Install Ahnenerbe widescreen mod:

Extract the mod somewhere, and note their are two folders, one called "Ahnenerbe WideGui 1920 x 1080 Final" and another called "SH3 Commander".

Copy the "SH3 Commander" folder's contents to your Commander installation

Then, within JSGME click on "Tasks...", then "Import Mod" and import the "Ahnenerbe WideGui 1920 x 1080 Final" folder to JSGME and enable it. It will ask you to overwrite some things from other mods you already enabled, which is fine.

6) Download the 4GB patch

Install it on SH3.exe

7) Run the game from the Commander shortcut on your desktop (automatically put there).

Voila. Tested on three computers. Let me know if you need any help.

The guide works and there is no conspiracy for some 20 year old submarine game to get you to join some random forum over another. The guide works 100% and there are no issues.

Lol, no, you don't need to pay for downloads, it's completely free.

Subsim has no paywall, it's free to register and download.

Yes, I have an account there, with this same name as here, SuperCoolDude, which I created to get those mods. Check the history. Same as your guide where the downloads are on a website you need an account for and is now behind a paywall until they collect money from the users.

I live in China and work in education, there is no conspiracy for some old game I just bought two days ago, I could care less about some random forums. I just want the mods to work with a modern PC.

Thank you for putting this together. Appears to work fine a year later.

One hiccup for me - after following the guide I am left with a 1024x768 windowed view while the engine appears to be drawing 1920 x 1080 correctly (set in d3d9-ini), as i can only view a portion of the main menu screen. Following SH3 install and running once I set fullscreen = off and might have impacted this unexpectedly. I'll probably start fresh unless anyone may have come across a cfg file change / other method to set window size.

You might want to wait a bit, The official GWX Knights Cross should be out quite soon with 1080p support out the box, GWX3.0 is a bit long in the tooth to use nowadays.
