SH3 Patches.

I bought the game yesterday to kill time quietly and it's quite fun but I understand that there are patches and upgrades available. Does anyone have a link to get these but not from Subsim which is simply making people pay for mods they got for free. Con artists !

Thanks ! I've had a look at it and it's a bit tech for me. As my Steam version is already the 1.4 I'll leave it there until I understand a bit more about how the mods work. I appreciate your help !

FURBAR_you might find updates on the UBI site but this version might include them already...don't know if it still post the older versions but would not hurt to look if you are looking for more info

Dude, theu're not "con artists" Its all about paying to keep the website up, that ♥♥♥♥ isnt cheap
Also 90% of the mods there are free

..First it"s Ma'am, not Dude. Secondly, if you want to download anything from that site you have make a donation. They want you to pay for mods that other people created and that they got for free. Plus, if those modders complain about it, they get banned from that site. Con artists !

Thanks, I'm happy enough with the Steam version so far. It's not like I'm going to get addicted to it or anything.... much... wait, maybe I am. Whatever, I have found some links that don't require any registration or forced donations. Thanks for your reply, Louisa.

Try http://www.thegreywolves.com/gwx3/ - it's the original home of the Grey Wolves mod which is an all-you-need overhaul of every facet of the game. Click the download thingy then look for the button for Jimbuna's filefront page. I just redownloaded from there the other day, so I know it still exists

The OP was asking about 'patches and upgrades' - if GWX3 Gold isn't an upgrade for Silent Hunter 3, I don't know what is! Highly recommended - my first patrol with the mod is described and illustrated in SimHQ's After Action Report forum.

I have tried to edit the heading of my post to "Patches and Upgrades " but the Edit thingy wont work. But never mind. I've added SH3 Commander to my game and I'm very happy with how it's running so I'll be sticking with that for the rest of the war. TY to all who have made suggestions. :)

@fiedler - "upgrades" would be covered by GWX. How about some comprehension lessons instead of playing at being the forum police?

Haggis_MacB.... how about dropping it. Fiedler has been very helpful to me and many others who play this game. His posted Guide is a comprehensive method to upgrading the game and is used by many who have found SubSim to be a problem. I'm very grateful to him for his ongoing assistance to me.

My point is/was that I too was happy with the basic game and still think it's great. However, I decided to use the guidance and tools freely available at DEF to make a second install so I could try out GWX as well. Having done so, I found (a) modding Steam SH3 with GWX wasn't as big a deal as I'd feared and (b) while I miss the easier interceptions of stock SH3, GWX3 Gold adds so much to the sim that if and when the OP (or anyone else in a similar position reading this post) feels ready to spread their wings, I'd highly recommend they go for it.

Actually, I'm not having any problems at all. My game is running fine with the Commander addon. The last time I looked on SubSim site was just a few days ago and none of the download links worked, except for those pointing me to another site. Have a nice day.
