Now regarding any separate mods, to use them you first need JSGME, which you can obtain by either going to this link: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=171237&highlight=jsgme , or getting it automatically when you install one of the supermods(I know it automatically comes with GWX 3.0, but I'm not sure about the others).
I don't know how you like playing the game so all I can do is suggest some mods that I use and you can pick which ones you want:
>GWX3.0
>Merchant Fleet Mod - Improved
>MaGui F
>Thomsen's sound pack v3.2
>Lifeboats & debris v4
>Das Boot clothes
>Ultimate Aircraft Soundmod
>Damage Texture 1.0
or you can just go to subsim and browse through any mods there.
There is also an addon called h.sie's patch, which adds realism and a little harder gameplay, however it is a little more complicated to install. I'll just leave you the link here and you can decide for yourself if you want it or not:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=174225
(READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY)
I'm assuming you already have the 4GB patch installed. If you don't, you should get it here:
https..com/file/tzfwnnbau961x1d/4Gb_Patch_for_SH3.7z/file
(add "mediafire" inbetween "https." and ".com", as for some reason Steam blocks Mediafire links)
(NOTE: If you do decide to use h.sie's patch, you don't need to install the 4GB patch separately, as it comes with the whole package)
And in official install guide it states that Steam version is not supported.
I recommend for you to install first the GWX and try it a bit to see it runs fine.
After that you could add mods to your preference. Use JSGME to easily enable/disable them.
I recommend at least Ahnenerbe WideGUI to enhance the graphics.
There really isn't anything else that is necessary for your first experience since the GWX brings all the little gadgets you need.
Sink em all!
I used to play with GWX on my orirginal SH DVD version back in the day. ( I recall being one of the first in the forums to own SH -- as it dropped early from Amazon that day)
Glad its still on Steam, as I wanted the ease of having a digital copy at hand.
Which of the the 2x patch's did you use for Steam? I would state that the steam version meets neither of these requirements mentioned on the notepad. Mmmm
First.
I'm using the link GWX 3.0- http://www.thegreywolves.com/downloads/ which basically takes you here: https://www.gamefront.com/games/silent-hunter-4-wolves-of-the-pacific/file/gwx3-gold-for-silent-hunter-3-full-download
JSGME is successfully installed with this. Handy for mod installs !
I attempted to install the 4Gb patch but neither of these worked, and I wonder if by some miracle there already installed?
I also checked this post: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=584181368
and went ahead installing Ahnenerbe WideGui 1920 x 1080 Final, following instructions. Now as my native resolution is actually 1920x1200,I was able to update the cfg file to this without any problems and no distortions during sea trials ;)
I also tried another options which allows improving resolution to much higher, but I like the included enhancements of Ahnenerbe WideGui. ;)
I also noted the 4GB patch downloaded from the above link didn't install for me(There are two vesrions), however this hasn't stopped me from using mods like Ahnenerbe WideGui where the link I posted above states "GWX would not work until I patched the sh3.exe with the 4gb patch". So go figure?
I also noted SH3 reads "v1.4"
So I might ask does the steam version already include the the 4gb patch and update v1.4 patches?
Anyway, it appears installing mods and updates is a lot more uniform than first thought in 2020.
Any questions please ask.
I'm now off to attempt more mods :)
Cheers
Also go and watch Greyhound the film its not about the Uboats, but will make you want to play.. :)
