ANYBODY?????
Is there anybody here with experience of this game willing to help us newbies on how to get the game up and running with the proper resolution??

I've downloaded the SH3-res fix, and this is the installation Notes.

''Just copy the two batch files and the SHIII.sdb file to your SH3 directory,
and run the "SP2 Res fix.bat".

''(I've included a batch file to uninstall the fix should you ever need to)''.

''I've included the d3d9.dll and d3d9.cfg in case you don't already have it''.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Does this simply mean the two batch files go inside the base SH3 base installation folder along with the SH3-res fix file or are we supposed to find a sub-folder?

Lastly, am I also supposed to install those other two files, d3d9.ll and d3d9.cfg in the base folder?

Once I've done all that,..is that it or is there something else to configure?

1. Put these the files into the main SH3 folder:
d3d9.cfg
d3d9.dll
SHIII.sdb
SP2 Rez fix uninstall.bat
SP2 Rez fix.bat

2. Run SP Rez fix.bat

3. Once that's done, open the d3d9.cfg with notepad and edit the lines:

resX=
resY=

So for example, if your screen is 1680x1050, you would do:
resX= 1680
resY = 1050

Also edit the line

enableScreenshots=1

and

screenshotPath=(any path you want)

Now that I've done the above, can I go ahead and install GWX3 Gold or should I have installed GWX first then the SH3-Res fix or will they not work together at all?

You can install GWX now. You should also get the 4GB patch if you haven't already.

Yes, I've done the 4Gb patch already. Thanks.

Well that does not work for me. I tried i dont know how many widescreen patches and none of them seem to be working. I get always a black screen for some reason. I tried vanilla, GWX and LSH.

No clue what im doing wrong here... :(

Well that's a shame because I'm a total newbie having this game for only a couple of days and everything works fine for me, including the GWXE.

I'm using the Steam version and it must of been patched somehow for Steam Users because when opening the fresh default game the 16.9 widescreen is already there, no black bars either side, unlike the disc versions. So I just installed the resolution fix to stop my monitor from throwing up the nagging message about fixing the resolution.

However, I did completely uninstall SH3 via Steam and made sure to delete any left-over folders including the one in 'My Documents' before installing GWXE because they recommend to do that.

Then I re-installed the resolution fix after the GWXE Mod. I'm up and running first time with no issues (so far at least). I'm also playing this on Windows 10

I also made sure to select the Windows XP Compatibility Mode just in case but that was set automatically by the Steam version anyway.

Okay so currently re-installing SH3, on a clean setup i will install GWX and then on top of that the widescreen fix. Wish me luck, lol.

Also using win 10, i will use compatibily mode.

Do you run the game from steam or the .exe in the sh3 folder?

No, I Run from the Desktop Shortcut icon that GWXE placed on there. I dare not open SH3 via Steam just in case something bad happens. I did open via Steam before I put the GWXE Mod on and I had no issues but I open with the shortcut now. I open Steam first, minimise it, then click the SH3-GWXE desktop Shortcut.

Hello Captains, just getting back into sh3 not played for years i tried to install cd from years

i am a member of steelsharks still from eons ago so when iv a bit more time i,ll be going back
you take on the roll of Captain which you pick from U.Boat net you are given a patrol area or some secret mission,no hard rules
as long as you radio in time to time and let Donitz no where you are should check it out if your board on your own they do multiplayer like if 2 or more boats on same convoy.
happy hunting

I highly recommend you get the "Living Silent Hunter 3" supermod. It comes with widescreen support, better user interface, huge ship variety, more ports, scripted events during the career and some graphical enchancement mods.
If you ever decide to play on 100% realism with that mod, this tutorial will help you calculate ship paths, ranges and speeds without map icons :
