1 knot speed-up turned me from green to red?

Was at a depth of approx 83 metres and running at slowest speed. There were some destroyers on the surface, though couldn't tell where they were.

I changed my speed from slowest to ahead 1/3 - and my safety colour immediately went from full green to full red.

Were warships that good at detecting minor changes in sub conditions?

Yeah. You have to remember were talking 83 meters. In the standard messuerments this is about 272 feet, which is about a block....

Also remember this is also a just a game So certain things will also be a bit more..

Yes, they were that good.

1/3 isn't silent running after all.

The guys on sonar wouldn't have been looking for you specifically but the hydrophone guy would have been listening.
