Silent Hunter 3 with GWX Mod install issues
I have been having trouble getting this game to work on my Windows 10 computer. I don't have this game through Steam.

I have tried reinstalling it, then useing the patch and then installing the mod. That is how I have installed the game in the past, but now it doesn't work.

I have done some looking else where for help, but nothing seems to work.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you have an old retail disc it might be time to buy a newer copy, I had the original disc, with the old copyprotection, and had to buy a new copy without it after getting a new PC with a new Win version. Many years ago so I do not remember the version. The version here on Steam works just fine for me, just that GWX needs some help finding the gamefolder ;)

What is the problem? do you receive an error message? the game wont start?
I have windows 10 and the game works fine.
Try running the game as administrator.

I've tried starting it in adminstrator mode, and that doesn't work. When I start the game all that comes up is the protection system for the game..

Sorry for not being specific, I forgot to pu that part in.

It says "Error This aplication can be launched with a release version of Miscrosoft Windows 95 OSR2.1/98/ME NT 4.0/2000/XP/ Server 2003 only.".

Check compatability for XP and make sure you run in admin. And lower your resolutions. The default resolutions for this game is 1024x768. The game will have trouble for some graphics cards trying to swith out of extream high settings. It may seem modern, but it is a older game. My desktop is set to 1280x1024.

And I have this on both my WIN7 hard drive and WIN10 hard drive. And it works normally..

fresh install of SH III, first delete everything related to sH III on your pc including in my documents.

install SH III, start the game start a school mission, then leave.
Install 4 giga patch then GWX then sh III commander + rollback option ON.

Thanks guys. By the way, is there a perticuler place to install the game besides the Program Files folder, or does that matter?

I got ya. I remember reading something simular. It sead to install the game in C:\Ubisoft. Thats the way I had it for a long time, untill recently when the game stoped working.

When you say 4 giga patch, are you saying that that patch it self is four(4) gigs in size?

This patch will allow the game to use more memory. So it can only be a good thing to use it.

The reason for installing games outside of the default programs folder was, is, to avoid the UAC and not having to remember to play as admin. The UAC might prevent the game from writing and saving files. Old problem that seems to be less of a problem in later versions of Windows.

Thats kinda interesting, I didn't know that.

Well, I'm not sure what else to ask and or do. Everything I have tried, will not get the game to work.
