Homemade or Store-bought Poutine?
Is there any reason to choose one or the other?

I prefere store-bought since it only costs 5$ meaning 25$ for 5 pieces
Five Homemade Poutines use up potatoes worth 200$ and the 5$ worth of cheese curds.

For me I don't really see the appeal in homemade since it is so much more expensive.
The only real benefit is not having to drive into the city which doesn't even make that much of a difference since you have to get the cheese curds every now and then anyways...

Homemade of course. Screw that industrial garbage. :D

No real reason though. I also have enough money to not care about the cost.

Per dollar spent you can make WAY more at home than buying and its always good to have a bit of extra. And realistically all you are buying is cheese curds cause you end up making way more potatoes than you will ever need.

Relying on "stores" for critical supplies.. no thanks.

Selling potatoes past early game is not really worth the time (only really worth on hard mode early game imo). As soon as I get fryer basket I never go to that store again I just have 4-6 potato plants chillin till I need a new batch of poutine. Stopping once for cheese curds is like 2 weeks of poutine.

Maple Syrup is honestly where you main focus should be when possible then weed. Weed takes a long time to get rolling even if you get seeds from the tower each week. Maple syrup you can honestly get going really quick if you know what to do and you get recurring payments on sunday.

You are also not looking big picture. Time is often more valuable then upfront money, multiple trips to the snack shop + expenses per week compared to cheese curds you drive past no matter what. That time could be spent making even more money with the other methods.

This is a good point, it really doesn't make any sense right now. You drive past cheese curds regardless but the snack shop is between the shack and the syrup federation too, so either way it's en route. You can buy the poutine and sell the fries at the same time and it's right next to Kali-Gas. It's SLIGHTLY more convenient, but the numbers feel way off.

And then in terms of time cost, there's calling your mother every day until you get the basket in the first place, just for the opportunity to turn 200 worth of potatoes into 20.02 worth of food with the cost of curds. I appreciate this game is not Factorio or something, but it is still in alpha and this feels like it needs a tweak.

Obviously it's much cooler to make your own real poutine and it's nice to call your mum from time to time, but that's exactly why I'd like it to be balanced a little so it's not purely a role-playing benefit. Perhaps a buff to your movement speed or some other unique benefit to your own poutine? A slower decreasing hunger rate? A batch of poutine per 5% of the fries not 20% (even still doesn't save money but it's closer?)

The alternative of making the store bought poutine more expensive or the fries sell for much less would probably be very unpopular.

You do know that the ability to sell potatoes is a newer feature. That wasn’t an option originally, it was another money making option that was added to the game later. So yea, the money doesn’t add up. If it did, it wouldn’t be worth selling them.

home made poutine doesn't cost 5 bucks to make. Each bag of curds makes 5 poutine. By the time I had the fry basket, I had more potatoes than I could sell. But I usually don't bother selling them, because the fry shack opens at noon, which is very inconvenient for making maple syrup. Maple syrup is how you make BANK. I'm making 10k in recurring payments each week. So, stopping by the fry shack takes time I'd rather be spending on making syrup. Yeah, I could make another 1000 a week selling fries. But then I'd make one or two less barrels of syrup that week, and lose out on the 1200-2400 that I'd get from those barrels.

Selling fries doesn't just take potatoes. It takes a lot of time to harvest and package them, and that's not the best use of your time.

wait til ya fill the bunker with planting pots and create huge packs galore. I at around 120k per week in that sttuff right now. Syrup ain't diddly at that point. Need to get a mouse clicker for those though. Saves on hardware.

The thing is, at one point you have a few million in the bank and don’t need to do anything anymore. All I do anymore I find new ways of yeeting the new junker into the ocean.
