rotating items

i need help rotating items, i know to use the mouse wheel but i cannot get the syrup barrel to stand upright, is there another key to use in conjunction with the mouse scroll button?

It always rotates on a North South axis to the player, so if you stand at either the top or bottom of the barrel you can rotate it strait up and down
