Fuel Question

I have just reinstalled this game and would like to ask a question, I seem to remember that if the mission involves sailing to Japan mainland I always seem to not have enough fuel to get back to Pearl, am I missing something, thanks for any help folks.

You run too fast.
1/3 sped will get you to japan from Pearl and still have 3/4 of your fuel left.
2/3 will leave half.
You could stop at midway and refuel and go 2/3 speed and have 2/3 of your tank left.

If you switch to numbered sped control and click 10knts that would be your most optimal speed for fuel efficiency and still charge battery well.

Is this there any other way to refuel at sea; rather than docking at a base .

Submarine tenders appear later in the war at various different spots and as the US takes back islands from the Japanese new bases form.
Early game it’s limited like real history.

I'm running at 1/3 speed to Japan and even slower back and I still run out of fuel well before reaching Midway. Even when the fuel guage show I have between 3/4 and 1/2 of fuel left in my tank when starting the return voyage.
