While DEFCON is an old game, it still holds up. The game is a simplified RTS about nuclear war with a side of psychological horror. What it lacks in variety it makes up for in depth, in gameplay and otherwise. The way each unit and building interacts with one another as well as the world around it leads to tense and engaging gameplay with conservation of your limited units and structures while two dozen nukes are flying towards your continent (and potentially even the city you live in IRL depending on your continent choice) becoming a nail-biting affair. Sometimes you might get absorbed in a round of DEFCON, and only afterwards you suddenly have the realization that you just killed hundreds of millions, if not billions of people. With the phrase "horror RTS" comes to mind a traditional RTS game but with extra jumpscares and gribbly monsters, but the most horrifying things are not creatures that go bump in the night, but real things that might really happen in the near future.
