DEFCON

I'm going to burn this game down.
I've tried just about everything I can to get this game to run via Steam on Win. 7. and not a damn thing is working. I've posted my specs and such to Introversion but no answers work. I've tried installing in admin mode, setting compatability for Win XP etc. and nothing. I click play, and the game starts up but within a second or two the game crashes.

I have Win 7 64bit and it works perfectly for me (I ddin't have to do anything special to get it to work)....I know this post is of no help and you will probably hate me after reading it...I only hope that your anger will motivate you to solve your problem with DEFCON and one day you will be able to nuke the world with people like me...I wish you the best of luck sir...

While I do find the pointlessessnes of that reply quite infuriating, the sincerity of wanting to nuke the world with me warms my heart like that of a glowing Moscow.

see if you have a virus, defragment and clean up your pc, are you running it in compatibility mode? have you tried admin mode? do you have enough ram to play it (sometimes ram isnt totally plugged in so you coul dhave less than you think) are you sure your pc meets the specs of this game? I have 6 bit windows 8 and it works fine for me...

No viruses, ever, defragged yes, etc. tried compatibility/admin mode as stated above. Yes more than enough RAM, and I more than meet the requirements.

Do you use Comodo firewall or any other program that might have a pop-up asking you to allow the game to have certain permissions? If so, check out this thread:
http://forums.introversion.co.uk/defcon/viewtopic.php?t=7437

In essence, you may need to create a preferences.txt file to put the game into windowed mode so that you can see said pop-up and allow the game to do what it needs. I hope this helps.

No there's no pop ups or anything. On the bit with the preferences.txt......I don't have one in my Defcon folder, am I supposed to have one? and what am I supposed to have in it?

If you create a text file called "preferences.txt" in the Defcon folder (Steam\steamapps\common\Defcon) with the text
ScreenWidth = 1024
ScreenHeight = 768
ScreenWindowed = 1
ScreenColourDepth = 32
ScreenRefresh = 60
ScreenZDepth = 24

it should force the game to start in windowed mode. It will at least help to determine if the game just isn't running or if it's having full-screen problems.

Nothing. Game starts, black screen, then stops working after a second or two.

I'm sorry to hear it. It seems you are having a different problem. I don't know what else to suggest.

Don't know how to do that, but seems like an awful amount of trouble just to play a game.

Uhm. Perhaps it would be a good start to post your system specs? And how about updating sound and video drivers or reverting them to an older version? Try verifying the game files and reinstalling the game.

ASUS G73Jh
6.00 GB of System Memory
4 processor cores
Total HD space 446 GB
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60GHz

I've already tried your recommendations but they don't work.

Disable anti virus or firewalls completely, and or skype or other background apps and see if it works, also disable desktop composition.
Panzerlied Mar 13, 2013 @ 8:11am
Still nada, as in, I've tried those too.
