Not able to Validate. Only Demo.
Is anyone else failing to validate upon first starting DEFCON under linux? It locks me into the demo even though I bought the full game.

Same here. This was the first game I bought on steam, haven't played it for like five years, istalled today and discovered i don't own the game. But when I try to buy it, it says I already own it.

the damn game can't even recognized being tied to a steam account? pathetic support. This basic game has more DRM then their latest game which has almost none. If not zero.

Im on win8 and it said after installing on my other computer its invalid

Windows 7 here, same problem. Although it has worked for me before; it just started not working when I reinstalled windows.

EDIT: I reinstalled the game now and went around in the options for a bit (I actually changed nothing, so it might have taken some time to authenticate it this time) and suddenly it worked. For those of you who are trying to enter a CD-Key, this can be done in Options -> Authentication.

Got the same problem here, but I will tryHomo(Bo) solution.

Oh wait, this thread is over a year old. Well, I'm getting it anyway.

Tried ♥♥♥♥ solution, nope. Plus I cant seem to view a CD key in Steam (normally you'd get this by right clicking and choosing the View CD Key option, but its not there). Oh dear.

I tried this: http://www.introversion.co.uk/defcon/support/networkproblems.html , deleted the authkey file in Steam\SteamApps\common\Defcon and closed and started the game several times. And the problem was gone.

Exit DEFCON and log out of Steam
Locate your DEFCON game folder (by default it will be under your Steam installation folder\SteamApps\common\defcon\ )
Open the preferences.txt file
Locate the following settings:
NetworkMetaServerPort = 5009
NetworkServerPort = 5010
NetworkClientPort = 5011
NetworkUsePortForwarding = 0
NetworkTrackSynchronisation = 0

Change these lines to:
NetworkMetaServerPort = 27020
NetworkServerPort = 27020
NetworkClientPort = 27020
NetworkUsePortForwarding = 1
NetworkTrackSynchronisation = 0
Save the file, log back in to Steam, and start DEFCON
