is there a way to safely delete the wimpering / crying in the background?

I mean I don't mean to seem rude but is there a way to disable that sound effect ? It slightly ruins my immersion in this game.

I agree, maybe I will search for where they store the wav files.

Ok, here is what you can do, using 7zip or winrar, extract the Sounds.dat file to it goes to sounds, there you can see and test which sounds you want gone, once you have done that, you rezip it and change the .zip to a .dat and that should do it.

I AM NOT A PC GURU, I just googled this up.

Sounds folder? I see no sounds folder in the Defcon file tree.
