IMO what's great about the skill system in Trithius is the many ways to play and RP.
My next playthrough I will definitely start with an Archer as I found myself using ranged combat most of the time. Background perks are strong too and remain useful through the whole game. Ranged combat is pretty powerful here. Yes, most skills are useles, but learn to use Athletics jump + some occasional teleport potions + stunning/immobilizing shot (although unfortunately their range is not great and does not benefit from + range bonuses) and nothing can hit you, at least in the wildernes. For tight spots and ambushes youll definitely want some melee weapon with chivalry passives. I found both staves and maces being a solid choice with lots of stun. Havent tested other weapons yet, so maybe they are fine too. And nature magick is definitely worth taking at some point at least for healing, maybe in later versions wolfs will get a buff too
For me, the best thing in the game is that I can do everything with the same character, and try glorious combination of skills.
