PUP/IR
I'm doing a season with Green Bay 2021, I used current roster. David Bakhtiari is on the PUP list in real life, I'm at week 6 and it has had him on IR for all 6 of the first 6 weeks with a 6 week recovery time. I can't seem to bring him back into the active roster... is this a bug or did EA ♥♥♥♥ up the PUP system?

Select "remove from IR" on the player card. It's been that way for years..

In real life, David Bakhtiari is on the PUP list and cannot return until week 7 at the earliest. He will have missed 9 games this season by that point, including pre season games, and have been on PUP for about 10 weeks. PUP is not the same as IR. PUP does not seem to exist in Madden and they use IR to cover this aspect.

In real life players cannot be taken off the IR list until you have played 8 games (not weeks, games) regardless of if they have fully healed or not. Preseason games do not seem to count in Madden (as David was not able to return after 3 preseason + 5 season games) so you will need to play at least 8 season games.

After the 8th game simulate to the next week and then check his player card and you should see "remove from IR list" and he will be able to play again. If, for some reason, he is still not able to return after 8 games then just keep playing games and check his player card after you simulate to the next week each time. I honestly do not remember which week I took him off the IR but he can return before the season is over as I did it myself.

Keep in mind that you can turn off preexisting injuries before you start a franchise and he won't be on the IR at all and you will be able to use him right away (if you prefer that instead of waiting).

Note that players who were on the IR used to not be allowed to return until the end of a season but recent rule changes allows 2 players per season that can be returned from the IR list before the season ends. Therefore if you return two other players before David then you won't be able to return David until next season and when you do he will use up 1 of your 2 returns for that season.

This was changed to 3 players and then unlimited players because of Covid. I don't know if these rules are actually in Madden because Covid obviously isn't. I would assume you can only return 2 IR players per season in game as those were the last rules that were created that were not influenced by a pandemic.

Yeah, that is normally what you do, but after week 6 it wasn't available still as my post said....

Thanks so much for the lengthy response. I jumped the gun as I knew he had to remain on IR for 6 weeks so just assumed after my week 6 game he would be eligible to return to the active roster. As soon as I advanced to week 7 I was able to remove him from IR and get him in the game. Go Pack Go

Just curious how you handled the cap situation in season 1. I haven't signed anyone so far and it says I have -2 million to work with... I'm going to lose 4-5 starters and a ton of decent backups and cant offer a contract to a single person because of the cap room. Says I can currently "negotiate" with 14 players... Weird thing is in real life the packers almost have 10M in cap room right now going into this season.

Starting with -2 million is a moot point because, even if you had 10 million in cap space this year, you still can't afford to source players from free agency as they are too expensive for GB to keep on the books for the 3 years they usually want. Rodgers' cap hit alone will raise by 10 million in 2022. The 10 million from this year would go towards Rodgers' contract next year. If you were to spend it then you would need to find an additional 10 million to support Rodgers' pay increase or the cap situation in 2022 would be -10 million more than it would have been if you left the team alone.

You can't offer contracts to people who are willing to re-sign because that money comes from next year and not the current year. GB is over the cap by 20-30 million in 2022 so we just don't have the money to re-sign anyone. We can't restructure contracts like real life. If GB wants to keep Davante Adams and others then they need to restructure contracts to free cap room otherwise these players are gone just like in Madden.

Rodgers' contract eats %22 of the total cap in 2022 (most likely the highest cap hit from any player in the league), almost 1/4 of our entire payroll on a single player, and that is why we are losing starters. You won't be able to get out of this hole until you re-sign or lose Rodgers.
