Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30

The most infuriating WW2 game I've ever played.
So apparently this game banks on its "unapologetic realism" and "historical accuracy". The only thing unapologetic about it was its artificial difficulty.

In what right state of mind would a developer that's trying to create an authentic WW2 tactical shooter make a game where:

1) You can't jump over simple obstacles like fences, walls, or gates/

2) Unable to go prone

3) Inability to cook grenades

4) Be unable to carry a pistol separately from your two main weapons

I gave up on this game by the time I got into Carentan. I'd had my doubts throughout most of it, but by the time I could feel the developer's fish cold fingers ushering me down hallways using invisible walls and 2 ft walls, I knew this game was no better than a simple rail shooter. Worse, actually. There's no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reason they couldn't have designed the maps so you could go AROUND the Germans by hopping a fence or kicking in a door. This is just laziness at its worst.

The ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ aim drift makes aiming with a mouse near impossible.

Now that you mentioned it, I agree with you. No idea why they couldn't just add those simple things like being able to prone, etc. But to be honest, the game is a few years old and although it does have its flaws, I think it has a good storyline. I'm still waiting for the next chapter in the series which is supposed to be the Battle of the Bulge. Looks like the developers completely forgot about it.

I think the aim drift or whatever is by design to force the player to use the squads to perform the four f’s of the game: find, fix, flank, and finish. Early on this is almost negated as there is only one squad, so they fixed the enemy while the player and their crappy aim had to do the flank and finish (the other way around really didn’t work because you couldn’t provide suppressing fire while at the same time ordering them to a flanking spot effectively). In later missions where there were two squads or more (rifle, tank, whatnot) this became a whole lot easier, but still for the player the crappy aim forced upon them by the game necessitated they acted as a squad leader and not necessarily a direct combatant. For me I couldn’t hit the side of a barn unless I rushed a German position and was merely a few feet away.

This is an old game though, back in the day it was normal not to be able to jump walls, cook nades or get more fancyness.

i think the aim drift is afffected by how much you are supressed.

Yep, also being an old school game ADS is not beneficial unless at range, and you shouldn't be taking potshots in this game anyway. Its designed around flanking afterall.

i agree, the whole game went to hell in hells highway. you could pick off everyone in just a frontal assault...

The game sucks. Its simple as that. Its about as realistic as Doom or Red Alert 2. In fact MOH on the PS1 is design and mechanics wise just a better FPS.

The only reason its an FPS is because WW2 fps games were selling around this time while strategey games like Men of War wouldn't work on consoles and never will. Its really a stragey game, and not a very good one.

The SOCOM series was a far superior game with far superior mechanics and design and AI....and everything else including realism and tactics. BIA EIB is such a basic and vapid game that it just looks like a fly by night cash grab by Gearbox or whoever made it back then. ( future Gearbox titles share similiar fates imo)

It just sucks and is boring and not fun.

"Be unable to carry a pistol separately from your two main weapons"

Every bloody COD game after 1 rears its ugly head as well as a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ most generic FPS/TPS vidoe games ever

This game sucks for me too, don't know why so many people enjoy it.

It does't tactical at all, it is ill-design for sure.
You want me flank? But emeny block all the way that you can't get around them,
all you can do is shot them to die directly from cover, only SOMETIMES you have the chance to flank them TACTICALLY.
And the AI is stupid as hell, stay outside cover, worst pathing, and then get kill easily.

I hope the later games will be better.

Your supposed to ORDER them into cover because you know how your squad leader? sorta the point of the game?

If I remember right the AI is pretty stupid, and you can tell them to do stuff and they will do it in an extremely stupid way at times. It sure aint Socom.

i completely disagree.

You're hating on a 2005 game because it does not have the features your 2015 game has...? Dot buy it then?
Captain Kebbles Oct 21, 2015 @ 6:59pm
because this game was made and supervised by army vets who didnt want you to be rambo and wanted to force you to use your squad and never ever do you jump in combat. going prone would have sucked in the layouts in the game with grass being so high as it is. and as for aim sway if you ever fired a weapon after running shouting and being shot out heart racing and often being shot yourself.........your aim aint going to be that good for a bit if you arnt bracing on something. played this game before having any shooting experince and hated it. after i did i loved it. and cooking grenades is the second beggest no no next to puttig the pin back in. grenades DONT last for five second. they have a fuse of 2-5 seconds....meaning it will go boom anytime after 1 second........ whichis why ww2 men often taped their spoons so they would blow themsevles up.
