why is seeing and hearing chat off by default? Also how to turn on chat.

and more broadly why does this practice even exist? all it does it diminish the experience. it clear people are not sure what to do and how to play and basically we have no way to tell them.

To turn on chat enable it in the game settings.

Because people on the internet has a great habbit of being really toxic. EA / Dice wants to reduce that by having the all chat off by default. Tho it doesn't make much sense, since you can already hide chat all together

Because EA worried about people's feelings being hurt and the backlash.
You can always directly block/mute someone you don't like but most do not know they can.

To turn on ALL chat you need to go to the settings menue. In game you can change chat modes with H (hide/active/always on) and swith with tab (all/squad/team).

Chat in shooter games is mostly useless and toxic.
If people WOULD use chat in a meaningful way, this would be different.
I played CS since it was a mod and NEVER was chat useful.
Just toxic.

but what is toxic. I mean people start out trying to tell people what needs to be done and when it falls on deaf ears it just gets increasingly frustrating losing for literally no good reason.
Now its just a literal echo chamber. I mean if your gonna play a team based game, PLAY THE TEAM BASED GAME.

I get the "Get gud" bs is dumb but why do those guys get to decide for the majority? Theres more of us then there are of them. I mean objective based games NEED communication. especially if your trying to win. even if your doing a mission people could just form a mission squad and invite everyone doing missions/challenges to that squad.
I also blame whatever smart guy making motherboards was like "Lets make a gaming motherboard!" us- "cool, does the headphone jack support sound and voice?" smart guy- "Why would you need that?"

I think if you think a person is toxic and your to lazy to hit the mute button, that's on you. the rest of us shouldn't have to go through this because someones feelings were hurt.

So played a game where basically the whole team had chat on and we crushed them so hard it was almost sad, almost. The game play was incredible for once (minus the lack of falling buildings >.>) and then I joined a game with zero communication. I totes felt how the other team felt in the game before. need to update game to turn that chat back on by default.

Because saying/typing something in chat can get you banned.
So if you don't know the exact list of "hate" words, you better to avoid chat like a plague.
This is an american game, but people from the whole world are playing it, and we don't have to be limited by US political correctness rules, but unfortunately that's how it is.

COD turned into fortnite though. You got celeb character's running around in pink armour.
Battlefield is still slightly grounded with military feel more than cod.
