Some people will swear that it's the best game ever, some will say Battlefield lost it's identity with 2042.
Only you will know if you think it's good by playing it.
You get 2 hours of playtime before you are unable to refund it via steam's refund policy so I would say give it a try, Play for around an hour and get a feel for it.
I can understand why people say the game has lost its "identity". People expect things to stay the same, and never change. We call them fundamentalist or conservatives. Nothing wrong with them, its just the extremist that we don't like.
The game has opted for a kind of "Hero Class" system that provides you with unlockable characters with special skills, which not only spice things up in terms of gameplay variety, but also aesthetics.
One of the things I really enjoyed was the cross-platform adaptability, allowing you to play with friends on different consoles. They also added optional bots to the small and large scale matches which helps when you and your friends just go into a PvE chill-mode, after a long shift without running into Sweats or ADHD teenagers.
I've played every battlefield since 1942, and let me tell you, the battlefield DNA is definitely there. Don't let the haters fool you. Buy this game while it has this discount and stop post-poning it for later.
Just because games get fixed 2-20 yrs later doesn't make them wrong.
I see much less teamwork compared to other battlefields.
Most enginners do not repair, medics do not revive as much, barely give ammo or spot enemies.
