Because steam delivers the updates as and when they are published and ready to go live, And you won't be able to play if you're running a different build to the rest of the playerbase.
2042 doesn't change any GPU settings except for forcing read-only attributes on low level driver stuff which used to be exploited to create an unfair advantage by nullifying some LODS.
Unfortunately this is the only answer to this particular issue due to cheaters exploiting GPU driver settings using third party tools to expose settings that are not usually available to "normal" players through Nvidia's control panel or Nvidia App/Geforce Experience.
Updating the driver solves the problem. AMD video card. In my case, the absurdity of the situation was that I had the recommended driver version installed. However, the developer changed the recommended driver version to a lower value (27.4.1 => 24.3.1).
Secondly what if EA includes in their 90GB package a key logger...or a program that searches for all photos on my computer and uploads it to their servers??
Who is checking that??
Who is testing that??
No updates whatsoever should be occurring without my notification and permission PERIOD...
If this game had a non online play mode...upon notification I could scan for errors like this before doing so...and if it did have errors...delay the update until I saw a working version.
