honestly i think you might struggle a little bit here. i had a 2070 super and a i5 9400f 16gb of ram before my new system and it was sub 60 fps on all low.

1660 in general are a bad lineup, but you might be able to get some performance with dlss on balanced, albeit at the cost of visual fidelity
ok 60hz smooth enough to play esports

You can play on 70-80 fps on LOW settings - 1080p.

If you have 120/144hz monitor, play on that refresh rate even if you don't get exactly 120/144 fps. You should also be able to use gsync without issues, as long as you don't drop below 30 fps. But don't play on 60hz if you can help it and don't set 60hz in the BF2042 settings. Just use nvidia's control panel to limit the frame rate 1-2 frames below your monitor's current max refresh rate. Alternatively, use RivaTuner's frame rate limiter, as some people claim it works better for them instead of the in-game's or driver's frame limiter (because companies/creators use slightly different methods to limit the frames).

16GB of ram at 3000/3200/3600 Mhz should be fine, but do keep in mind that the game is a resource hog.
If possible, do consider upgrading the GPU at least. A 3070 (ti or not) or 6700 XT / 6750 XT should be plenty good for 1080p BF. A garbage Gainward 3070 Phoenix costs 370€ new where I am right now, so you might get a nice find out of the used marketplace (fb, ebay, olx etc.)

Trust me, optimization is an itch of mine, so I am confident in what I'm talking about.

i was getting around 80fps with old AMD vega card everything Low at 1080p.
now i upgraded my GPU but i noticed the game need more CPU than GPU.
from Google your CPU is old and 6 cores, but i think it's enough for BF2042.
you can try it for less than 2hrs and test it, if it wasn't good then refund it.

Good luck.

yes

R5 1600AF @ 3.8GHz
GTX 1660 +150MHz Core Clock, + 630MHz Memory Clock
16GB RAM @ CL 16 3000MHz
1920x1080 @ 77Hz

The game is heavier on the CPU, which gets even heavier closer to more players, you can increase some GPU related settings because of this.

- (With music or a YouTube video open in the background) I get 70-100+ FPS using mostly low settings (High Textures, Texture Filtering, TAA, SSAO and High Post Processing to turn on Screen Space Reflections)

- I'm normally using higher settings for the beauty, which give me 66-88 FPS: Mesh on Ultra makes the characters' hair look amazing, Medium Lighting adds more dynamic shadows and High Lighting gives the characters' skin Subsurface Scattering, HBAO has better shadows.

There is Dynamic Resolution Scaling to keep the framerate at least equal to your refresh rate, in my case 77Hz/FPS.
(GTX series cannot use DLSS!)

In my case there are a small amount of CPU related stutters in areas with too many people, mostly as I'm spawning.

I have an i5-4690 and RX 580. Performance is good with everything on low 1080p.

get a user.cfg file, it will help you quite a bit. Just search about it on YT.
