What's wrong with Battlefield™ 2042?

I'm just rewatching the trailer for Battlefield 2042 and I remember how hyped everyone was before the game was released.

As someone who's not played it, I'm tempted to buy it as it's on sale but everything I'm seeing indicates it's not worth buying even at a huge discount.

My question is what's actually wrong with Battlefield 2042?

Why is it regarded as so bad compared to other games like BF 1,3, 4, V etc.

nobody likes the hero shooter specialist system. we all wanted a basic battlefield game without all these wacky specialist only gadgets. along with all the expected features the game launched without (movement from bfv, basic scoreboard ui, less weapons)

I like the specialists, generally. Or at least I don't mind them... As for the game being unfinished when it came out, 100%... Maps all sucked. They reworked them. And to fix basic stuff took too long.

It's not a good FPS; the "classes" are bad and the guns don't feel interesting.

nothing is wrong, you see at these forums you will meet A LOT of cry babies and they just want to moan on everything, its on sale, buy it, hop in and on the end of the day you have 2h to refund if you don't like it, ♥♥♥♥ it you can even play against the bots to see how the game feels and if you like it advance yourself to normal multiplayer, listen life is too short to constant "beaching" about everything including video games, why we play games? to relax, to have fun, some of you take this further to competitive scene but this game is for fun only as competitive scene doesn't exist :) just have fun m8

Well I could give a few pointers, but the BF2042 Forum is gonna go full on defense mode.
- Mouse input being broken since beta. This will never be fixed, since it is an engine level problem.
- The maps are bad, most of them is not even fun to play. Looking at you Manifest and Hourglass.
- Specialists with their own gadgets. Some people are just tired of hero shooters.
- Hit reg being inconsistent. Feels worse compared to other FPS games.
- Vehicle and weapon balance are a mess. Still don’t understand why they nerfed the SMG headshot multiplier to 1,25.
- Lack of content. Altho we will see at March how much content season 7 has.
- Game modes being swapped every week. Which might sucks if you only enjoy rush xl.
- 128 player mode was a mistake. It should have stayed with 64 players mode.
Ehh I could keep on, but this is enough to give you an idea, what is wrong with the game.
With that said, if you really want to play it, then grab it while it’s on sale. Never pay full price for this.

- Air vehicles are broken since BF4, but in BF2042 they have managed to break land vehicles too to the point that handling it for 20 seconds makes me want to vomit.
Otherwise, if you only play for infantry, it's an ok game. Considering discounts they give regularly, it's worth what they ask for it.
Definitely better than BF1 and BF5.

It still has no good vehicle balance. Helis way too OP now. The supposed ''counterplay'' isnt working in this game.

The vehiclemaps are horrible because of this, and many vehiclemaps are badly designed (too small and confined), making them boring meatgrinders.

Infantry gameplay is meh, too much arcade Call of Duty gameplay and NOTHING like BF4/BF1.

Main reason for all the hate is the fact they changed the playable soldier type. Instead of the basic "faceless" soldiers like on previous titles, you have a few individuals which all have different abilities.
Calling it a "hero shooter" isn't really accurate, but on the Specialist aspect it reminds more Overwatch than battlefield. But the similarities end in there and there aren't animal characters or other childish crap like that, all guns and vehicles are made to look realistic and something what we "could have" in 2042.

I'd say 60% of all the hate this game has ever received (including the reviews) is because of the new "Specialist-system". Not because the game would be worse than your average fps. 30% is because of the launch was so miserable and both EA and Dice showed they really don't care about you as a consumer. 10% is about the state of the game, how you are region locked even if your region doesn't have enough players, how there seem to be game-breaking bugs every time a new Season starts, etc. I don't mind the specialists, I think it brings more into the game than the old style. But there are many people who disagree. My biggest gripe with the game is how there still are bugs Dice haven't bothered to fix although it was reported back in Beta over 2 years ago. Sometimes I really hate the game, not because the actual game play though, that is the only good part of it, but some days you just encounter a bug after a bug after a bug and instead of playing the game for 2 hours you end up sitting in the menu or in queue or starting the game again and again for over an hour and maybe get to play for an hour. If I have two hours free time to play a game, I would very much like to play the game for two hours and with this title it doesn't always happen.

I would also take into consideration of how many community awards most of the negative reviews have gotten. Farming community points is a real thing, and the easiest way to do so is to say something what everybody else are saying.

I'll read all your feedback and I'll probably give it a miss for now. Maybe in the future if it goes up for 90 or 95% off I might buy it but yeah, everything I'm seeing shows me a game where the devs don't seem to care. I especially can't stand basic bugs not being fixed years after release. I'll probably stick with Battlefield 1 and 4 for now, might pick up Battlebit as many people say It's akin to Battlefield 3 and has a nostalgic feel to it.

The game wont even run on PC, it still, 2 years after launch, still has the infinity loop on the intro video with only one fix that only works for SOME people that is related to the Microsoft OneDrive??? Huh? How your game gonna break over OneDrive being installed? Still better than COD tho
