What's the current state of this game?

I left a few months ago after the Dozer buff, but since CS2 is infested with cheaters, I considered maybe returning to this game. Should I? If not, why?

only bf2042 is the most time played of all BF games in your list. Maybe you should stay with CS2. better yet, go play your COD game. Your ego is to big for the game world.
You have more time in BF2042(240 hours) than CS2(94minutes)
P.S valve shooting games are rubbish.

There is a very sad but logic truth, that is growing since the last 3-4 years. All companies try to save money while also trying to make more money. What many people forget, when it comes to anti cheat measures is, there needs to be people who review some bans and replay to support tickest about wrong ban claims etc. There is more to say about that, but i think you get the idea, All of this cost a lot of money, especially for such big titles. They also have to constantly develop anti-cheat software further and the hackers do the same on their end, wich results in a never ending war.

Many studios simply dropped or at least reduced their efforts in this regard to save money. They present a few hundred cheaters to the community now and then to silence the whiners, so they can say we do something. But the reality looks diffrent, they only present the "noob/dumb/careless" cheaters wich use the cheapest and lowest hacks wich get detected even by older anti-cheat software, while the cheaters with the new undetected cheats run wild.

You also have to know that you can adjust modern cheats, so they are more or less obvious. These cheats are called humanized aimbots for example, wich mimic human like mouse movement for example. I always have to laugh so hard when people show up and say "i have never seen a cheater in my 3k hours". Because i can garantee you these guys have seen hundred, if not thousands of cheaters in their playtime, they simply didnt realise it. But thats no reason to feel bad, it can be very hard to spot a smart cheater wich uses humanized aimbots and other stuff.

If you want to know how it looks like when people really hunt cheaters down, then watch those 2 videos i link below. But i have to warn you, after watching those videos, competive games will never be the same for you after that and thats not a joke, i mean that absolutely seriously :-/

As you can see, these comments you often read, where people say "there are not many cheaters or no cheaters at all are more then questionable. Thats because most people have not the slightest clue about hackers, cheaters and cheats, they have not investigated it for a single minute in their lives. I on the other hand do that since more then 20 years now and i can promis you, there is in deed a whole other world behind this one when it comes to that and its not a good world :-/

There is far more to say about this topic, these are just the basics ... :-)

You talk too much bs. I had around 700h in BF4 through EA APP and when I merged 2 EA accounts into one when I bought the games on steam I lost the acess to all hours and stats.

Thanks, I'll take a look into it. I was having a decent experience when I was playing in the afternoon, I don't think I was getting many cheaters and I was able to find servers without many AIs, I guess I'll give it a new try in the afternoon. I was having a good experience around 3pm~5pm but even not I keep getting cheaters (there was 1 on my last match)

Although I'm used to buying skins in CS, I don't do that in BF2042, since I don't like this pass stuff.

From what I've seen most people tend to go for the objectives and help in whatever way they can. Surprisingly there seems to be less crying and complaining in the chat as well compared to what I'm used to from BF4 (and all the titles before that one).

Matchmaking tends to die out at certain times but is usually fixed if you toggle cross-play back on.

Performance and general stability of the game have been top tier for me with i5-10600K, RTX2070, 32gb ram, NVMe

Not sure anything of this is relevant for you though as you played it some time ago, but I wanted to give my impression as a new (BF2042) player.

I think 2042 state is a lot better then BF3-4 state. At least after revisiting BF3 and playing BF4. Playing 128 players was refreshing and the tornado had me cracking up when it lifted me up, up and away. Lol. I would have to be spawn kill every time I spawn, before my game is ruined or I notice. I only played a few games here and there, but people die when I pull the trigger.
