You could argue if that's effective _enough_ though, but the superior magazine capacity can come into play at times. Like say Redacted, and you're using an LCMG with a horizontal stabilzer, you only need to pull it down a little after it starts spewing bullets, at that point you paint in broad strokes. Don't let go and don't stop and wait for something to appear in your sights. Keep it going and guess a bit.
If you guessed right you'll have people running into a wall of bullets and just like that you got 5 kills.
BF2042 and BF5 no longer have suppression. So that statement isn't true.
So:
1. Damage and supposedly anti-vehicle damage (think littlebird, flying lawnmower and cars)
2. Some are laser beams and the others get to be after you deploy your bipod.
3. as other said, mag-size and continous fire. If I run into 3 guys I usually need to finish the 3rd one with my sidearm and if I don't have enough cover I often die.
LMG's vary from gun to gun. RPK-74 handles and has a different role than M240B.
Remember that TDM, Conquest 64 and Conquest 128 all play differently and the concept of where you as a mediocore shooter and your eventual LMG fit in, varies.
There's not much reason to take LMG into TDM IMO, small in Conq 64 and much bigger in Conq 128 - simply because the engagement and ranges are much wider, including the space between the scum of the earth (camping snipers) and typical frontline rushers.
So if you struggle in close fights here's my advice: keep your distance.
As for other guns, try AK-24 with bigger mags, muzzle breaks \ compensators and either close-combat optics (that doesn't get you ADS penalties) or the 4x scope that comes the reddot on top (I carry both and switch between them). Learn it's recoil \ spread pattern.
