RAM XMP setting can also be unstable sometimes. Could be worth trying default and see if it still hangs. (Changing things in BIOS is on own risk.)
Usually if a game restarts the PC its CPU or RAM. If GPU is unstable the game can crash but usually only to desktop on modern PC:s. In rare cases the PSU might be too weak but thats last on the list of things to check.
Temps on CPU could also be a problem as suggested above.
I had this problem I did a verify game files it kept updating a couple files and that didn't seem to work but I looked and the only files it would update were part of EA anti cheat so I reinstalled the EA anti cheat using the installer that's in the games install directory.
it seems to have been resolved after reinstalling the EA anti cheat no crashes after that.
You could give that a try and see if it helps for you or your friend.
