I'm going to try and say these things as respectfully as possible..I just woke up so this is going to be all over the place. lol
Dice was simply trying to Update their IP to stay relevant in a market where "hero shooters" were dominating. And honestly, I wouldn't even call it a "hero shooter" because in a HS 1 player can carry a team to victory.. That simply isn't possible without hacks in 2042.
I don't think Dice had anyway of anticipating how ignorant and selfish the BF player base was / is. What removing the class system did was implement an operator system that put in a team composition and communication in as a mechanic.
The problem - There has always been a core group of BF players who played the game as a squad based communication heavy game. I know at least for my friend group and a lot of others this is true. By removing the class restrictions it gave people the freedom to play the game tailored to their personal play style, which is / was awesome.
But Dice had no way of knowing that there was a swath of BF players were simply brain dead press W and left click then respawn players. These are the kinds of players that made PTFO or GTFO a Battlefield mainstay saying. These are the people that the BF community used to call "useless blueberries". The problem was that those people stood out, painfully, in 2042 because there was zero team work. Dice implemented a very nice quick communication system so that you didn't need to even have a mic to play and honestly, they probably anticipated MOST people playing to be in a squad in Discord.
I could honestly probably write an article explaining my thoughts on this. I love this game. I see the community slowly getting better. I just hope that Dice commits to this game for the long term. Because the game is awesome and every update has been great. They're really working their asses off and I would hate to see this game die because the community kills it.
Or, EA simply tried to half bake a class system on top of w/e garbage they already had and we wind up with a half assed version of both hero shooter and class system.
Half-baked as it is, I personally enjoy what we have now much more than what we had at launch. My main issue is no longer with balancing but with how annoying pretty much all of them are as characters, and how they're identical across both teams
Yeah, they would have to scrap the operators and honestly, the game would be better for it. The whole hero shooter thing, at least as its done here, just doesnt work......
THe operators just feel so....generic and their abilities so pointless for the most part, outside of a few oeprators. Falck for healing, Sundance for flying squirrel and Mackay for weeeeeeeee zipline. The abilities also feel out of place in a BF game. Its almost like this game belongs as one of those arena shooters.
As it is, the AI each have thier own character model for each of the 4 classes, so the base of classes is there. They would jsut have to scrap the operators, then create 4 new classes for the 4 classes.

IT GIVES YOU EXTRA GADGET SLOT, WHY WOULD YOU REMOVE THAT ???
HONESTLY; WHY DOES IT BOTHER YOU? YOU CAN DO EVERYTRHING YOU COULD DO BEFORE!!!!!
WHY REMOVE ??
i can't use rockets unless im an engineer an engineers except Lis suck so no one plays them. thus vehicles rule the game
If your issues are with vehicles, there are a number of ways to take them out that don't include rocket launchers.
If you have issues with not seeing ammo boxes in the game, then the issue is with your team.
The class bonuses, even with the small differences, are still bonuses - it could have been that we'd have weapon restrictions. With the small amount of weaponry 2042 has, that would have been quite a bigger issue.
