Hard to believe the days of boxed physical games are gone.
I heard earlier this year that 2022 will be the end of all optical media sold, and that it is all streaming here out.
You can still get physical games with the install media on most games, I think in the case of 2042 you'll get the install media when you buy the game but then you'll still need to download the updates released since 1.0, Its just better to grab the digital copy really.
Chances are though, The 2042 box will actually have the install media in the box, They're just held behind the counter to prevent theft.
When you purchase it the staff will grab the box from you, read the code on the box and get the install media from a plastic wallet that has the same code on it on a sticker.
Unless you're me and you like some retro stuff, I picked up a copy of the Blair with project triple pack which had 3 3rd person survival horror titles based on the story of Ellie Kedward.
I only ever pick up physical copies if the price difference between the physical and digital versions is significant, e.g 7.99 physical > 34.99 digital.
