Small guide to improve your FPS and game (maybe)

Hi all

I'm playing this game from March 2022 and I will share with you all my "findings how to improve this game". Yours results will vary, might not change nothing but at least you can try it, its a LOT TO READ (sorry 1st time) and also please accept my apologise for my wonky English is not my native language, lets go:

First my PC:

- i7 11700k overclocked @ 4.9Ghz @ 1.300v
- Msi Z590 - A - PRO
- Msi RTX 3080 Ti GAMING X TRIO undervolted @ 0.987v @ 1965/1980/1995
- Kingston FURY Beast 32GB - 3600MHz @ 17.21.21.39
- Samsung 980 1TB NVMe M.2
- EVGA SuperNOVA P6 1000W - Platinum
- Arctic Liquid Freezer II 420
- LG 27GP850-B
- Windows 10 pro, 21H2 version, windows updates off, blocked, disabled.
- Nvidia drivers: 497.09

Windows power settings:

- USB selective suspend setting: disabled
- PCI Express: Link state power management: OFF
- Hibernation - disabled, off

Other windows settings:

- Xbox game bar: OFF
- Game mode: OFF

Origin settings:

- Origin in game: OFF
- Diagnostics: all OFF

Mouse properties in windows:

- Motion 6
- Enhance pointer precision: NO

Now if you kindly find your BF2042.exe file is, mine is in:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 2042

Right click on BF2042.exe, compatibility, and check(tick):

- Disable full screen optimisations
- Run this program as an administrator, hit apply and ok.

Click Change high DPI settings and tick on the bottom:

- High DPI scaling override:

Override high DPI scaling behaviour. Scaling performed by:
- Application


I do run my game from exe file each time not from origin, and yes I run this as administrator each time it helps when streaming in OBS on Twitch and it helps I think with anticheat.

Because we are siting in this folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 2042:

- user.cfg - DOESN'T WORK, never was

This is what I had inside:

Thread.ProcessorCount 8
Thread.MaxProcessorCount 16
Thread.MinFreeProcessorCount 0
Thread.JobThreadPriority 0
Render.DisplayScreenInfo 1

How do I know? Go to any game and press ¬ and type Max, and choose:

Thread.MaxProcessorCount - choose it and hit enter and it will come back as:

Thread.MaxProcessorCount 8

So how to bypass this? Each game (map) you load in you need to repeat this process by typing Thread.MaxProcessorCount all over again, but remember when you come back to menu to choose another game you will need to type this again in your new map/game, not in menu:

Thread.MaxProcessorCount 16 - for those who who want to increase CPU usage

If you have 6 cores 12 threads CPU, you can still choose to use 16 it should maximise your CPU anyway. I heard anything above 16 crashing game but it doesn't on my PC.

It worked for me pushing my CPU from lazy 60% average to 75-85% all cores but only when I was playing on 1080p. Now I'm on 2K and it doesn't have any impact anymore.

What I've installed from nvidia (only this) is:

Nvidia Graphics Driver 497.09
Nvidia PhysX System Software 9.21.0713

Why I'm using so old drivers for nvidia? Because it f* works in any game, zero crashes in FH5, FH4, Metro Exodus Enchanced Edition, BF 2042, BF5, Tarkov, WOT, simply it works, no missing textures, pink textures, black textures, blurry stuff, missing textures.

Now, in:

C:\Users\[your name]\Documents\Battlefield 2042

there are 4 folders, 1 important and 3 not so:

- cache
- CrashDumps
- Screenshots

- settings

Battlefield said on twitter that deleting them will cause some issues and low fps, instability etc. but I'm still deleting them every few games and also I tried to delete them while in game or menu in bf 2042 and my game didn't crash, you need to test it yourself but it helps me every maybe 3-4 games go there and delete cache, crashdumps and screenshots. Please don't touch settings

I play BF 2042 all on low, 2K, 180hz, motion blur off and only 1 option is ON:

- Nvidia Reflex Low Latency: Enabled + Boost

if you can switch something off, do it!

- Nvidia DLSS + Future Frame Rendering doesn't work for my PC, you need to test it yourself.

If someone wants my PROFSAVE_profile file just ask I will upload to you or even here and you can compare to yours. There are few lines to check and make sure they are right but its wayyyyyyyy to long to post it here

I thinks that's all folks, all yours results will vary, we all have different PCs, drives, ram, psu.

Why I switched from 360hz 1080p asus to 2k LG 180hz? Textures are way better than 1080p and you simply see more than 1080p also hit detection (hitreg) is way better than 1080p, also as we all know in 2k GPU takes over not your CPU like in 1080p so if you have I think 3070 or up go for it, my aim is to get in the future 240hz 2k but first I need to do rat race for 4090 series soon

I know this might be chaotic write but its my 1st time here and I'm trying to help and pass my knowledge to you battlefield gamers

If you survived reading until now I'm happy and thank you for staying that long with me

PS. If you have Msi Afterburner and want more FPS:

Move power limit to max
Make sure you move your fans way up

Open settings and in General choose, tick:

- unlock voltage control
- unlock voltage monitoring
- force constant voltage

That should give your few more FPS but!!! Remember You need to have good cooling on your GPU to do that!!! Crank your fans to 75% minimum and do some tests, do it at 80% and do some test lads.

If the game had proper usage you'd most likely be getting 160+ FPS at max settings at 2k. Your guide has a lot of time put into it, and I'm not trying to diss the guide, I'm just stating that the game is FUBAR.

The game looks like complete garbage in lowest quality, i get 110-144 FPS all maxed out without Raytracing, i only got a 1080p 144HZ G-Sync monitor.

Lately it mostly runs around 125+, the game doesn't run like ♥♥♥♥. I mean how much frames a person need?

I could understand playing it in all low with a 360 HZ monitor, but seriously the OP only plays with 160 FPS? Loooooooooool.

With regards to user.cfg

While it worked in previous games, it does not in 2042 and I believe this is due to easy anticheat.

There is a workaround, in origin right click the game and select "game properties", click on the option "advanced launch options" and enter each command in the window that opens, don't forget to add a - before each command and a space after before adding the next command.

E.g, Using ops user.cfg in the OP, you would add the commands into the launch options window on origin as the following

-Thread.ProcessorCount 8 -Thread.MaxProcessorCount 16 -Thread.MinFreeProcessorCount 0 -Thread.JobThreadPriority 0 -Render.DisplayScreenInfo 1

Then how it comes user.cfg works fine for me? Maybe this is an AMD thing, or Antivirus?

Or because i use Win11? I mean there must be a reason it works for me somehow.

Couldn't say, I found personally that making a user.cfg in the game directory didnt work for 2042 but works fine in previous games

How to check?

When you load to your game press ` and type maxprocessorcount and hit enter if its showing 8 it means doesn't work, so you must type this in game when you load in to new map and type maxprocessorcount 16 and then it will work.

this game is broken and way too heavy for current PCs, for better results you need to tweak it or stop playing it or upgrade it or quit playing, yes I know its garbage performance but I'm trying to help mate, and for me your PC is cool, strong and shouldn't be upgraded in few years but unfortunately EA/DICE/intel/nvidia/amd wants your money each year so for them it looks like old rig :( that's why it works like garbo
