Exactly this. So much talent left DICE during the game's development. You can't help but wonder if this guy had anything to do with that.
If I was a long-time DICE dev and suddenly I was being told to turn my passion project into a battle royale money printer, I'd probably tell them to pound sand, too.
I would love to hear an anonymous AMA some day about what really happened behind the scenes to turn 5 studio's efforts into
Bet he was like "Let's get this thing released so I can get outta here."
meh
like it or not Candy Crush is vaaaaaastly popular and a huge income generator.
The experience gained from working on such an enormous project will likely stood them in good stead for many aspects of the project.
I dont like Candy Crush revenue model but that's hardly applied to BF2042.
Lastly, don't forget, one person alone doesnt make or break a thing. There's more to BF2042 than a Lead Designer
You got google, not that hard to search lol.

Despite these explanations, the timing of Mesmar's departure announcement should be considered extremely unfortunate. The release of the latest Battlefield did not go according to the creators' plans. Just take a look at the user reviews on Steam (and other websites) - although clearly improving in recent days, the 30% positive feedback is not a result that can be expected from a high-budget production.
As if that wasn't enough, criticism comes not only from players, but also from EA DICE employees. Of course, not directly against the game itself, but the decisions of the management made during the work on Battlefield 2042, which influenced the final result. This did not prevent the game in finding buyers, but also does not bode well for its future.
As long as something is selling, EA could care less about reviews. The only thing they care about in the end is $$$. The shareholders only want to see their money grow, and if that isn't happening, someone in the chain has to go. In this case it was the lead designer, even though he probably told his bosses several times that this game would probably not be well received by old fans of the franchise. But he oversees the production, and if it goes well, he gets a really juicy bonus, but he's also at risk to be blamed.
Meanwhile shareholders demand results. What i think has happened is that this game received a record number of refunds. And that is something they really don't like.
This game had early access. And since the game-time clock only starts ticking once the game is officially released, people could actually refund after playing for 40+ hours. Which i know several people who did.
