Yeah that's hard. Fun is subjective to a lot of people. I've always liked both series. I just have to be in the mood for the games. I play COD when I'm in the mood for some competitive gaming with interesting rule-sets, challenges and quick matchmaking.
I like to play Battlefield when I want to play in a big map with lots of infantry units, vehicles and team up with some friends.
I always preferred BF (Cold War was my first CoD since the very first call of duty at the beginning of the century and i bought it on discount only to play with friends)..
I also always preferred World War 2.
So i would prefer to pick 2042 over Vanguard because i prefer BF game modes. Vanguard was only if any interest to me cuz it's WW2 so if friends all play that instead of 2042 well at some point I'll get it to play with them. The fact BF Portal brings back stuff from BF1942 is enough for me to say "why would i bother with Vanguard even if it's WW2?"
As i said, Vanguard only because it's WW2 AND only if all my friends pick it and don't get BF... Butt i honestly believe that many of them will pick BF or both so i won't have to bother with Vanguard at all. Long live BF1942 :P
So the question is: what do you prefer? Some people hate some game modes, some people hate World War and prefer modern combat. What about you?
Edit: oh and do you plan to play with friends or not? Do you enjoy playing solo? Cuz if your friend pick the other game? Or should you pick the same game as them? Think about it
Also, congrats to everyone for not going into a frothing rage over an OP mentioning CoD in a non-negative light.
EDIT: Spoke too soon.
Don't worry, you're not doing anything wrong. It's just the nature of forums; a troll like that MarVerine guy makes one flippant comment, and suddenly the whole discussion is in anarchy.
If Halo interests you, make sure you give Splitgate a try. It's basically Halo meets Portal; you can use Portal Guns for flanks and aerial stunts.
Back on topic - i think you should try BF2042 for 10hrs with EA play that you can get for 1$ with XBGP and if you hooked - buy it if not buy COD :)
