Should I buy this game on Steam or Origin?

You're forced to play it through Origin even if you buy it on Steam. That being said, if you're into trading cards, badges, emoticons and achievements then it would be better to buy it from Steam.

There's only downsides to buying it on Steam. Worse refund policies, it'll probably boot you out once the weekly maintenance happens, you have to run Origin anyway to play and, as far as I know, you'll be forced to launch Steam even if you only want to run it through Origin, if bought on Steam.

So yeah, quite literally nothing but downsides it seems.
The game is just sold on Steam for exposure.

That's wrong if you're pre-ordering. If you buy on Steam you can play the "beta" as much as you want and still refund once it leaves its early access state. Just don't play more than 2 hours of the official release.
Pretty sure EA would tell you to get bent if you did that on Origin.

As of right now, I am pretty sure no one here knows how exactly this is gonna work.
The rules for Origin state:

You can make a refund request:

Within 24 hours after you first launch the game.
Within 14 days from the day you bought it, if you have not launched the game.
Within 14 days from the release date if you pre-ordered the game, if you haven't launched it yet.

For Steam:

REFUNDS ON PRE-PURCHASED TITLES
When you pre-purchase a title on Steam (and have paid for the title in advance), you can request a refund at any time prior to release of that title. The standard 14-day/two-hour refund period also applies, starting on the game’s release date.

Can I still refund my pre-order after the game comes out?
Preordered games that have been released are still eligible for a refund, as long as the refund request is submitted within two weeks of the game’s release, and the game has been played for less than two hours.

So for Origin, it indicates that you still can refund within 24 *hours once you launched it.
For Steam, it probably means that you probably can refund it as long as you request it before the game's release. But just probably, as the second part indicates that the 2h limit still applies.

Though anyone can play the open Beta as long as they want anyway, for as long as it runs. Pre-orders just get access to it earlier.

So yes, generally, Steam has, in fact, worse refund policies overall (they only have the bare minimum because laws forced them to anyway...go figure).
But the refund policies regarding pre-orders, that are playable prior to release, are unclear.
One thing is clear, though: If you request a refund 3 months past the purchase, you will only get the money back into your Steam wallet. That might not be an issue for most, but it's another consideration.
Generally, on paper, Origin has vastly better refund policies, while Valve is mostly acting on a whim. Just one of many reasons I am not supporting this platform anymore.

Or on Origin if you're bothered by the double DRM and that's the only thing you're concerned about even though it's an overall ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ platform..

Steam, When launching this game you only run the OriginThin client which is less intrusive. Remember if you are going for the gold or ultimate version to take 1 month of EA Play on Steam to get a 10% discount ;)

As far as I know If you use Steam for playing EA game then you need to link to Origin account. BUT If you want to unlink the first Origin account and change to second Origin Account. The all progress from first Origin account will lose forever although you link to the first again.

I'm glad EA games are finally on Steam. Whilst you still may need Origin to run Battlefield via Steam (wish this also changes in the future), at least you don't need to look at the Origin's ugly UI.

The UI is just fine. If you have issues with that UI, then the issue isn't with the UI. Really not that hard to click the game's thumbnail.

I said its UI was ugly, not that it had any issues (tho it might).
