Pre order for beta then cancel?

If I pre order the game, play the early access beta and it turns out to not be so great for example say it has poor performance/is incredibly buggy and I end up being put off the game; can I still cancel my pre order or is this rendered void by playing the beta?

Play Pro I believe for early access, Though I THINK standard EA play qualifies too.

play does qualify too, i had to look it up hehe before purchasing it.

I have done this many times and yes, you can refund. Per Steam's policy, you're allowed to refund a game if you don't rack up 2 hours (game time doesn't count when playing BETA but it will if you have early access to game launch so be careful here) and refund is made within 14 days of purchase.

I do find it weird, it seems like a huge misconception that you need the game to play the beta, it's not like anyone needs 4 whole days to see if the game is for them or not, a few hours should be enough.

I won't be able to try the game out during the open beta time frame, but the early access dates work. I primarily want to see if the game runs well(knowing EA's past performance/bug related hiccups)

yes, you can refund it but only if you have played less than 2 hours :D

The game is a pre-order, you can refund if you only play the beta (so long as the game doesn't actually release before you refund). Steam allows refunds with beta time played. Also the Beta is separate as well so no issue whatsoever.

Basically if it wasn't separated you could still refund (no matter how many hours played), you just need to open a support ticket via the support site and type the details, it was beta etc. If you simply opened a ticket via steam library it'd most likely be handled by bots which only take hours played into consideration.

'(so long as the game doesn't actually release before you refund).' this is wrong. if youve preordered the game, the standard two week two hour margin applies to you when the game releases. you can request a refund before or after the release.
