Basically if it wasn't separated you could still refund (no matter how many hours played), you just need to open a support ticket via the support site and type the details, it was beta etc. If you simply opened a ticket via steam library it'd most likely be handled by bots which only take hours played into consideration.
How is that cheaper and safer when you don't get your money back but you can from a steam refund lol
You can also play other games in the catalog to keep you busy, especially those on your wishlist. Sometimes you might be glad not to purchase a game if you didn't enjoy it.
Edit: bear in mind you don't need to spend $15 if you are not going to subscribe for the entire year.
I do find it weird, it seems like a huge misconception that you need the game to play the beta, it's not like anyone needs 4 whole days to see if the game is for them or not, a few hours should be enough.
It is 2021 and all digital games will now include a beta trial period.
His point isn't about if the game has a beta trial but that you need to own the game to take part in it.
I am waiting till the beta goes into open beta to give me a feel if I will buy it or not. am not going to preorder it just to play the beta.
