I've played demos of two other games that have steering wheel support, and neither of them actually have steering wheel support for the demo versions!
What latest patch? Steam never notified me of a download pending for Virtual Driving School.
To see the wheel input preview from the main menu go to
Settings -> Key Bindings -> Select "SteeringWheel" -> Wheel Input Preview is in the bottom centre of the screen

If there are still issues please let me know and I will look further into this issue.
If your inputs are set up correctly but you aren't able to drive the car make sure you have the steering wheel selected as your active input device. This can be set in the Keybindings screen Screen Image reference[i.imgur.com], this also can be set from the controls screen in the options.
I updated my game, and I'm still having trouble. I even tried disconnecting my controller believing that it was interfering with my wheel, and it made no difference.
Hopefully when we find what is causing issues for the modern Logitech wheels that the Thrustmaster wheels will work as well.
