This is one of the greatest games of all time?! This?!

This game with it's terrible controls boring combat and frustrating sections and one of the worst cameras in the history of video games is considered one of the greatest games of all time?! I don't get it. I just don't get it. I don't get why Style so completely trumps Substance in so many people's eyes. Yes, this game has Style in spades. The art design is good. The characters are good. The story is good. The dialogue is good. This has one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard. All that is great and if this were a movie, then that would be enough, but this is NOT a movie. This is a game and the actual gameplay sucks balls. The controls are awkward. The combat is terribly dull. The difficulty of the game ranges from mind-numbingly easy to so difficult that I want to tear my own eyes out and eat them and it flips back and forth between the two extremes like a pendulum. And then there's the camera. That piece of crap camera. That bastard camera that was crafted in the pits of Hell. The only games I can think of that I've played with worse cameras are 'Resident Evil' on the Playstation and 'Super Mario 64'. It's so awful. My throat is literally hoarse from screaming "I CAN'T SEE! I CAN'T ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ SEE!" at this game over and over time after time.

Why is it that games get such a pass on bad gameplay just because they're pretty? So many times I've played a game because people go on and on about how wonderful and magnificent it is and I'm smacked by a game full of frustration and awful design. 'Oh, but it's pretty and it has a great story so it's the greatest game ever and if you don't like it then you're a stupid dummy poo poo head'. No. Video games are GAMES and games need good gameplay. They need good controls. They need good cameras. The players need to be able to see what the hell is going on. This game has a lot of good things about it, but, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥'s got some really bad parts that people just seem to ignore just because the soundtrack is good.

I remember having finished it when it came out on gamecube, back in the days. Of course, now I didn't remember anything so I decided to do it again. And I liked it, the soundtrack is good, characters too. The controls are too simplist, fights are too easy, you just have to spam left clic and here you go.
Sometimes the camera made me cringe, especially during infiltration phases where you can't see if a guard is coming your way or not.
The pc port is okay, you have to deactivate a few options or there will be some glitches, but even after deactivating it there was a few minor ( but nothing important).

So I just finished it, in 9 hours and ... I'm still hungry. I mean, the story is good, but nothing is explained ! Why the aliens ? Where do they come from ? Why do they have this apparence ? Why does Jade have powers ? I know she was some part of the Alien Priest but nothing is explained. Why did she separate from the Alien Boss ?Why is the game called "Beyong Good & Evil ?" We clearly have bad guys and good guys. Why Jade's real name is Shauni ?

And I thought there would be some side quests, but no , you actually have to do all the infiltration missions and the volcano quest to obtain enough pears. I thought in the beginning we couldn't afford all the equipment in the game, that we should choose what to upgrade for the hovercraft but you got to have all the pieces to continue the story.

I hope BG&E2 will have a real scenario and a budget big enough to create a good world

On Beyond Good & Evil - yeah, the game has nothing in common to Nietzshe. As for storyline - as I understand, Shauni is something or someone of huge importance for DomZ to even exist. Jade is Shauni which, as I understand, was stolen from DomZ. How it - whatever Shauni is - ended up being Jade - I don't know, and noone does except maybe developers, because game remains too vague, - supposedly it's something of spiritual nature. Considering that BGE2 is basically cancelled, I doubt we'll ever get those answers.

Also, don't forget that Hillys is just a small mining planet, and DomZ are invading it, as it seems, only because they need to get Shauni back. What is overall political situation in the galaxy and what part DomZ and Alpha Section play in it is completely unknown, as well as if ALL the AS corrupted or it's just Hyllian department, etc. etc.

i see, thanks for the explanation. But as you see, there is a lot of wholes in the story.
Concerning, BG&E2, I think the project is stopped, but not cancelled.
At the latest E3, a journalist asked about the game, and a dev said that Michel Ancel is indeed busy with a lot of projects but didn't talk about the game being canceled. It may not be for now, but i'm sure we'll get it in a few years

Seriously though, the only people at this point interested in HL3 are Half-Life fans... which is perfectly fine. I happen to be one of them. So saying you are not interested now because you were not interested in the first place, is redundant.

And to get back on track, at least HL3 has a gaurentee of eventually existing. Printing money and all that. With BG&E2, it has no such gaurentee because it never sold well and Mr. Ancel got bored.

For Ubisoft, Rayman and Asss creed DLC are more important now. That will be eternally prioritised.

I played this game for the first time when they released that HD version on 360, it has certainly aged in some areas but besides a couple mechanics the story, characters, humor and gameplay are all spot on. I had a lot of fun with it and it reached a satisfying conclusion.

I agree with you. I just finished the game. It plays like kingdom hearts. Its really overhyped and overrated. The story is meh, its okay not bad. The media really overrated it, gameplay is meh, the controls are alittle bit clunky, and the camera can be an issue sometimes but doesnt destroy the gameplay. Mario 64 was a bad game i bit down hard and completed the stupid game. I also had to finish beyond good and evil since i bought it for cheap, i didnt really want to finish it through to the end, but i bit down hard and pulled through. I didnt really enjoy it kinda had to push myself. My next game is earth 2150 hope i won’t get the same feeling.
