Gun Loop Fix
Turn off the game.

Inside the Vegas 2 Binaries folder find file DARE.INI

Change "DISABLE_OPTIMISATION" from "false" to "true"

should look like this
DISABLE_OPTIMISATION=true

save the notepad. That's it.

On a side note, I beleive the sound bug originates from the Host computer itself (during online play), so the fix might not always work on your end.
This is a theory based on when I've hosted and the people I play with don't EVER get the bug, and they haven't applied the fix.

Please reply to post if the fix worked for you!

Happy Hunting!

Didn't work for me and a friend, can't tell if it helped or not. Tried the EAX.dll thing and that made it not happen the first time somebody shot every time. This didn't seem to really fix anything. May still work for some though, it's really frustrating that this bug never got fixed and seemingly can't be fixed. I don't recall this bug being so bad on the Xbox, it was there just not all the time every time.

Thanks for the tip StrongLad. I see you started becoming really active and helpful on the forum, this is very appreciated :).

I will try your fix later this week and will report if it resolved the sound loop bug.

I remember playing this game so much with my friends on 360, I'd hate for little bugs to ruin such an awesome game.

it may help reduce the problem but it still occurs. I don't think there's a way to get rid of it entirely but I hosted and my two friends only got the glitch twice over the course of 5 maps. So it makes it much more playable for sure.

Didn't work either when clients join my server or when I join other servers. I also tried messing with the LAZY_SOUND_BUFFER_POOL setting below, didn't work either.

I really think there is no fix at all, it's just in the game's MP code itself.

Hello everyone, thank you for sharing your workarounds and experience of what you tinkered with to remove this audio bug.

As a suggestion, has anyone who has experienced this tried running the game in Windows compatibility mode, in addition to disabling full-screen optimization, to emulate Windows XP/Vista, and did this help?

Locate the games .exe game file in its installation folder -

- Right click on the .exe file and select the Properties option
- Next, select the 'Compatibility' tab
- Select one of the older Windows OS, either - Windows XP/Vista
- Select Apply
- Select OK
- Launch the game by double-clicking on the games .exe file instead

I did every possible fix, but the silliest thing worked for me.

I got flashed and the sound returned. It seems that continue to play the game eventually the audio would return, but when got flashed the audio returned to normal for me.

The problem may be related with audio effects that flashs grenades and frag granades has on the player, to simulate the "temporary deafness". The glitch may occur because the engine don't call back the normal audio, so you are on the constant effect of the deafness problem; this is just my theory, I'm really don't like programing, so I'm just guessing based on my own knowledge.

So, what fix for me (Playing Single-Player)

- Continue to play, eventually the audio would return, but every match was bugged at the start of it.
- The IA throwed a flash grenade on me, then the audio came back. I think it should work with Frag granades too, maybe.

So... throw a flashbang on yourself and see if it work for you :cozycrashfish:

I played the game for a good 500h, getting flashed isn't the trigger, it seemingly happens randomly.

Thank you for your additional workaround and insights on this dem0, it's appreciated and will hopefully help others in the community who may be encountering this should compatibility mode not do the trick.

We appreciate it!

i tested again, but flash and grenades does not seems to be the issue or help in any meanifull way; like Genesis pointed out above.

Every map I enter the bug start and goes away. I just keep shooting until the game fix itself. If you just keep moving, shooting, eventually it goes back to normal; at least for me.

I notice too that the game has problems to load the menu after you quit a match, showing only black screen (it take a few seconds - 3 ~ 5 - to load the main menu, even though you can hear the sound effect when hoving on the menus with your mouse).

So, for me the glitch can be reproduce:

- Every time I enter on a Terrorist Hunt map, the glitch occur.
- It fix itself while I'm just running and shooting (It seems to take from 1 minute up to 3 minutes to get back to normal).
- After the sound glitch is gone, it does not come back. I can change weapons and the game run normal. But, If I leave the map and start another map, the glitch occur again and I have to the same procedure to fix it (keep shooting and running untill the game fix itself).
- I notice too when the glitch occur and the sound is starting to came back to normal, my FPS will sometimes drop drastic (I don't have the numbers, but it is clearly felt like the framerate was bellow 30 FPS).

I don't know if the community was already aware of this things, but I will leave here my experience, maybe it will help somebody.

PS: All my experience was playing Solo. I did not play Multiplayer matchs or co-op.

The sound loop should only occur in MP for clients, not for the player hosting the game. I've never heard of anyone experiencing it while playing solo though.

Glitch is evolving. I only play Vegas for the solo (off-line) modes; Story Mode and Terrorist Hunt.

The bug for me appear on the Terrorist Hunt solo mode (with Lone Wolf, don't know if it changes anything if add IA partners).
