Game is stuck on 'Running install script (Punkbuster Anti-Cheat)'

when i click 'Running install script (Punkbuster Anti-Cheat)' loads forever and never completes, i tried download punkbuster manually through the game files, but it didn't help, i also verified file integrity and reinstalled the game twice, please help :(

Had the same issue

Delete the pbsvc app from the "PB" folder in the game files, you may need to end background processes for pbsvc in task manager in order to delete it.

RSV2 doesn't have punkbuster servers anymore so it's not used for anything.

FWIW I solved this before finding this thread by removing the following lines from installscript.vdf in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (or wherever Steam install is):

"Punkbusters"
{
"HasRunKey" "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Valve\\Steam\\Apps\\15120"
"process 1" "%INSTALLDIR%\\PB\\pbsvc.exe"
"NoCleanUp" "1"
}

But I think simply deleting the PB executable is preferable and easier. With that said Ubisoft should fix their Steam release since they're selling it, it's just embarrassing we have to do this.
