Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 (Steam Version) w/ GameRanger - Setup Guide
Hello Rainbow Players,
I've recently started playing R6V2 again via GameRanger. This might work for R6V1 as well but haven't tried yet. Now I know its not the simplest way to play R6V2 but GameRanger does work and is easy to use once setup. Here's how I got it to work:

1. Verify integrity of Vegas 2's game cache because I've had installs missing a couple files sometimes with Vegas 2.

2. Make sure GameRanger knows where the game's R6Vegas2_Game.exe file is in the GameRanger settings. Vegas 2 install location for Windows users is commonly "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Rainbow Six Vegas 2\Binaries". GameRanger usually automatically detects the file location of the Steam version.

3. Not sure if entirely necessary but I set both GameRanger and Vegas 2 to "Run as Administrator" in the Compatibility settings of their Properties (R6Vegas2_Game.exe and GameRanger.exe Properties. NOT the shortcut Properties) each time they're launched, just in case.

4. Make sure GameRanger and Vegas 2 are allowed to use your network properly.
-To do this you may need to turn off your anti-virus software (i.e. AVG) temporarily. Then go into your install location of Vegas 2 and startup the RainbowSixVegas2_SADS.exe (Commonly located for Windows users at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Rainbow Six Vegas 2\Binaries". This should prompt the network privileges to appear then click the private network option, then allow.
-Launch GameRanger (While anti-virus is still disabled) and the network privileges option should appear again for GameRanger access as well.

5. Launch the game from steam normally so it has the initial launch setup installed (if you haven't done so already) then once in-game go to the Multiplayer settings in the Extras option of the main menu and turn on UPnP. This will automatically port forward the game for your router. This may not be necessary but I did it just in case. Once this step is done then you can turn on your anti-virus again, if you even had to disable it. There may be an error message saying your router doesn't support UPnP. My router does and it said this once yet it still port forwarded. *I've seen cases where UPnP wasn't needed to be turned on so if after all this it doesn't work then turn it off to see if this was the reason.

6. If the previous steps don't get the game to work with GameRanger then you may need to go to your router's settings and add the "DirectX" programs port forwarding option which I did years ago so I couldn't tell you in detail how to do. With a lot of internet providers its easy to sign into your account on their website and adjust the settings there nowadays. If you do this you should also see the Rainbow Six Vegas 2 ports forwarded on your router from the UPnP step earlier.

This may work with the Ubisoft Connect versions or retail versions as well but I've heard from other players that the version you have is the version others need in order to play with you. I don't know if that is true.

This is how I got mine to work. I hope it helps. Please feel free to add any helpful info or correct me on anything that may be incorrect of what I said here.
Thanks

your internet browser or antivirus is blocking the site. most likely the browser is doing it. try to change the browser settings to allow you onto the website or use a different internet browser.

I cant get UPnP in the game to turn on after opening up ports in my router and setting rules in my firewall. Will it still work through GameRanger?

why wouldnt it have worked?
game uses lan now for online play so anything from steam to non steam works with game ranger as long as the software supports the game.

either way thanks for the post it will get this small community alive and kicking again

Sometimes there's small file differences between the different client platforms that causes gameranger to think the game isnt the same version. i've seen this happen with Ghost Recon Advance Warfighter 2
