Original, fun and challenging collection of puzzle games. I also like prezentation in spirit of retro computer including hard drive noise.

I can't believe this has positive reviews. There is an in game wait time of 15 min to unlock a game.

With Zachtronics, you should always expect the unexpected - so it's not surprising how surprisingly unique their last game turns out to be. Geekishness has always been a big component of their games, but with Last Call BBS, they went into total overdrive, and created the geekiest game ever. It's a retro journey in an imaginary world, with an imaginary old school computer, to an age where games were painstakingly downloaded via dial-in modems, and storage also was at a premium. The game features 8 retro games (all readily cracked, of course), some of which would even stand on its own as a commercial offering, some are more like an afterthought.
Putting all these things together into a single package should have ended up a horrible mess - instead, it turned out to be some near-magical nostalgic experience. I mean, how can you be nostalgic of something that has never existed? Last Call BBS managed to pull off this obvious impossibility perfectly, though.

As many, many other players, I'm sad that this is the last game from this unique, talented studio. Starting with SpaceChem, they had produced a string of brilliant games, each bringing dozens of hours of brainy entertainment. There are many talented puzzle game devs out there, but no one quite makes these kinds of construction games, and this will be a big hole in the indie gaming market. But all things have to come to an end, I guess - thank you Zachtronics, it's been a tremendous ride.

Really enjoyable. A few different puzzle styles, each requiring a different broad approach - and quite a bit of tactical variation for the different puzzles within in each group. The presentation and concept around the whole thing is top notch, too.

A couple of the later chip challenges are proving to be pretty difficult for me, but I was never all that good at making things fit into tiny spaces. I'm sure you'll be able to beat me on the histograms :)

I've always really enjoyed Zachtronics games, and this one was no exception. This will be the last game made by Zachtronics and that feeling pervaded the game. The protagonist sits alone with a computer that strongly vibes with other Zachtronics aesthetics found in schenzhen io, exa punks and Tis 100. They download small puzzle games online and play them for their own enjoyment. The entire experience feels like one last hurrah as you got through a list of ideas that could have been full games, though never will be.

excellent marketing. was considering downloading this over TTY, then DTMF, the pulse-dialed octal. settled on just pretending it actually uses dial-up.

Incredible collection of Zach puzzles with a story sturng between them in the form of heart warming emails and an amazing front end reminiscent of Win 3.1 machines. Totally worth the price if at least two of these sound interesting:

+ Sawayama Solitaire is a great time waster because it's just draw 3 klondike solitaire with a free space.
+ Dungeons and Diagrams is a lot like Picross - you have to fill in squares based on the numbers shown in the columns and rows, except there's some extra rules (like treasure rooms are always, 3x3 empty squares, and monsters always have 3 walls around them). The purchase price of Last Call was worth it for just this game alone.
+ Food Court is a great set of conveyor puzzles and wiring up weird machines to get it to work. This game gets REALLY hard half way through - a lot of the machines you set up earlier probably take up a lot of room, which means you need to think up new more efficient machine combinations to solve the same problems because of limited space.
+ Hobby Studio let's you build and paint Gundam knockoffs, I couldn't play too much cause I have gnarly RSI and it killed my wrist for several days after one play session but it's very fun.
+ Forbidden Path is a very cool looking programming game with no instructions. A lot of trial and error when starting it for the first few hours. It's pretty cool, but I wish there was maybe like... one small box with like 3 lines of text total worth of help because the UI is very confusing.
+ Hack*Match is an arcade puzzle game that's a mix of all those tile matching VS puzzle games (think Puyo Puyo and Dr. Mario). Probably the best "video game" in Last Call - can even be played in multiplayer. It's also incredibly difficult.
- ChipWizard is a CAD program disguised as a video game. You have to put circuit boards together. A long time ago I used to draw these things in CAD for a company for a few months - I found it confusing then and I find it confusing now. One day I'll figure it out but for now this one's the weakest game for me.
- Kabufuda Solitaire is an okay solitaire game very similar to free cell I guess? But because it uses Japanese symbols instead of numbers I find it really hard to think the puzzle out long term and routinely end up just picking up cards and hoping for the best.

9/10 game haven't finished any of them

I'm pretty sure the mini games are just bunch of ideas that never got made into a full game. The puzzle can be very complex!

Please try the next review to help you decide to purchase or not, I only play Sawayama Solitaire.
