Intro movie doesn't play properly
After the Ubi Soft logo and the disclaimer, the screen goes black. I get sound, but no video. The title screen comes up just fine afterwards, mind, but this is freakin' frustrating. How do I get the intro movie to play properly?

I have this same issue and have been looking for a fix. It's really annoying because I love the main intro video

Cut off your Internet connection, make your firewall prevent any traffic, block off the game manually or find the workaround in which you add some lines of text to a file in some Windows subdirectory to prevent what might happen later to you (google for "Assassin's Creed freezing"): The game freezing for several seconds every time you kill somebody, pick something up or basically interact with anything. It seems the game is constantly contacting the Ubisoft servers, people say it's a DRM mechanism, but gets timeouts and these freezes are probably a result of that. I suppose it's the same with the Ubisoft logo and game opening. I got this stuff everytime I started the game, or at least around the middle parts of the game, and when I blocked off the game from the internet or blocked everything off with my firewall the freezing soon stopped. Going from fullscreen to windowed mode with ALT + Enter might help too.

bump.

Same problem played fine the first time and now went black every time. And it's not freezing to the early always online drm test, music and sound keeps playing.

Not to point out the obvious but have any of you tried updating your gpu drivers?
Same problem...

Ok, i stumbled upon a weird "solution" to this problem that I had as well. I had a movie running in VLC when I started the game up. VLC crashed, but the intro movie ran without a problem.
I know it's not permanent, but if you want to watch the intro, this worked for me.

This happens with me too. If I play afterwards, sometimes some of the dialogue is messed up too. So, I just quit and re-load. Also, it seems to do it more when I'm just using my laptop. I'd guess it's video driver related, but I have the newest drivers.

Yes, for me could be that too. I just messed in graphics options and another time it was ok.
HERE IS THE SOLUTION:
1.Enter the game files.
2.Run "AssassinsCreed_Dx9" or "AssassinsCreed_Dx10"
3.Movie should play fine.

Now here are some extra information in case you want it all right:
When I did this, I made a shortcut for the DX10 exe file and put it on my desktop, along with the original icon. Starting the game was not recognized by Steam, so I watched the intro and exited the game afterwards. The first thing I did after was to enter the game again using the original shotcut and this time the intro would play.

Edit: The screen went black for a few seconds after trying it once more, but the intro started nevertheless.
